Gigs / Celebr8.2 Review... of sorts
May 19, 2013, 03:07:19 PM
Well, it's not exactly an overview of the whole weekend, but it's what I saw on Saturday. Including a man with a hurty finger.

Frost* / I'm listening to Frost*!
December 13, 2012, 03:07:06 PM
Most obvious thread title ever?

Well, no, not necessarily. I can't remember the last time I sat down and properly listened to Frost*. The Philadelphia Experiment gets reasonably regular rotation in the car but the real albums have been a bit neglected of late.

Until today, when I made a 'Frost*' playlist for the iPod, which has both albums and associated 'extra' tracks in chronological order. Blimey, this is quite a body of work isn't it?

'Milliontown' I've heard so many times there aren't any real surprises, but it's nice to know it still has the same exhilarating goosebump factor it did the very first time. And the sequencing of 'Wedding Day' after it worked rather nicely, along with 'Here is the News'...

The accidental masterstroke though was putting 'Raining in My Heart' directly before 'Experiments in Mass Appeal' - it works amazingly well (would be even better if the rain sounds in EIMA were there right from the start of the track), but RIMH is a lovely, lovely prelude to the EIMA album. Go on, try it, you know you want to.

Right now I'm halfway through the EIMA album, remembering what a wonderful song 'Saline' is, and getting more and more excited about Sunday by the minute.

Secondly, once you are confirmed, I need your food order. I appreciate that you don't really know what you want to eat a week in advance but the sooner we can get this through to them, the less likely we are to have to wait around for hours to get fed on the night.

//http://www.mehrish.co.uk/menu.html

So, please post here to confirm your attendance and PM me your food choices at some point before Thursday the 15th.

On your naans, get set, go!

I have to say - one of the reasons why I don't visit here much anymore is because I'm mostly browsing from my iPhone, which I can do nice and easily via the Tapatalk app on other forums (fora).

However, not this one. Is the forum software compatible, do you know?

Any Other Business / Confession
October 11, 2011, 11:38:29 AM
Hi everybody.

My name's James, and I have a confession. I've been unfaithful to the Frost* forum. For the last year, I've been seeing the Tinyfish forum behind its back - and what's worse, I'm not even sorry.

But I'd like to attempt a reconciliation ahead of the Xmas gig. Will you forgive me, forum?

Gigs / Pics of Frost*ies from Derby Meetup and gig!
December 08, 2010, 09:08:36 PM
Hello everyone - here are some photos from the pre-gig meetup and post-gig aftermath, you might see a few familiar faces, and be introduced to some more! I'm very sorry to say that I forgot lots of people's forum names thanks to a red wine or two, so please come and introduce yourselves if I snapped you!

My camera fogs up on entry to the Jonty Farmer but I manfully carry on to capture Tricky (L) and DS (R) in soft focus. DS licks his lips in anticipation at the wonderful menu on offer:

Some of the first Frost*ies to arrive (beating me by a good hour or so!) (L-R: Two mystery Frost*ies, MikeEvs, Brom and a bloody nice chap who gave us a lift to and from the gig, despite having to be pushed out of the car park!)

More intrepid arctic explorers - Back L-R: "Guy who'd been to as many Genesis conventions as me"  :D, Tricky, DS, "Very nice fellow whose name I have forgotten", L33VEY - Front: "Frost*ie who I have met before but whose name escapes me"

Big Black Table- L-R: BigBlackShed, GigBuddy, JQ, Bert ("I am smiling...")

Brom catches me in the act...

Mouse

The JiBs - ProgDog sadly not pictured.

More Frost*ies waiting patiently.

And more! I spy a RobH and a James A (minus the Big Red Shorts)

More to come in a moment...

Frost* / Pre-gig Meetup in Derby!
December 05, 2010, 08:18:17 PM
Hi All,

I can't see that anybody's organised anything else yet, so I'm taking it upon myself to round up the Frost*ie herd which might otherwise spend the afternoon wandering aimlessly around Derby in their 'Keep Calm and Mellotron' T-shirts...

Since the name came up in earlier discussion, and it made me laugh, and it's within walking distance of the uni - I'm going to suggest we all meet up at:

http://www.jontyfarmerpub.co.uk/

The Jonty Farmer
Kedleston Road
Derby
DE22 1FT

Looks like one of those pub/restaurant things which may not be as atmospheric (i.e. grimy) as somewhere like the good old Fighting Cocks in Kingston, but it'll probably serve pretty well for those that want some food with or before their beer. And it's probably got plenty of tables free, especially on a Monday afternoon.

Now - I don't actually know what time the gig doors are. The only thing I've seen so far is from our trusty Uni of Derby mole, drscab, who said she THOUGHT doors were at 7.

I am well aware that people (and by "people" I mean "I") like to queue up stupidly early so as to be able to look up Jem's nose while he plays, or to examine JM's crotch from the front row (not me this time), so I am going to imagine that people (and by "people", I mean "Pedro") will start leaving for the freezing cold queue at around 6.

I therefore propose that people start turning up to the pub any time from 4 onwards, so as to give us plenty of time for maximum nerdy prog talk. And then people can come and go as they like and head off whenever they want. (as long as it's not before me.)

So, I suppose what I'm trying to say in a VERY VERY longwinded way is:

Meetup. Jonty Farmer. 4pm till late. Bring biscuits.

Just checking out the 'Tightly Unwound' album at the moment in preparation for the Peel gig in February, and I'm really enjoying it!

Any other fans? I previously only had '10 Stories Down' which is good but not as good.

I've tried desparately to get hold of some of the older albums but they seemed to be very hard to find last time I looked.

Ask Frost* / Magenta tour?
December 23, 2008, 04:21:43 PM
Hello everyone...

Any more news on dates on the Magenta/ Frost* double headline tour? I did ask Dec on Saturday night but he didn't even appear to know it was happening at all... honestly! ;-)

I would quite consider a trip to Holland if there were no UK dates - I suspect things are on hold pending new drummer, but thought I'd ask.

Other Bands / Jean Michel Jarre Tour
December 23, 2008, 10:29:29 AM
Just read this on another forum... I may have to try and get along to Wembley if I can possibly afford it!

QuoteAs some of you may or may not know already, Jean Michel Jarre is planning a large tour throughout 2009 and 2010. Initially, dates are being organised and negotiated for between April and June 2009, with the only dates (at time of writing) being confirmed for May so far.

The tour promises to be Jean Michel's largest yet, with venues being from smaller auditoriums of 3000+ seating, to full scale Arenas of capacities of more than 12,000! The tour will involve a new stage design, with some fantastic lighting effects, Hi-Def projections and videos, Lasers, and even Aero Productions have informed us that the Laser Harp will be involved also!

The tour has been confirmed as a Best Of tour, with tracks being performed from Jean Michel's entire back catalogue, but at the time of writing, Jean Michel and team have not decided on WHAT tracks as yet will or wont be performed, but Aero Productions have confirmed to us that NEW music will be written specially for the shows, with a POSSIBILITY that the new music MAY be incorporated into a future album, but this is in nowhere near decided on yet, as it's only an intention (plus said new music hasnt been written yet anyway).

Aero Productions official press release is as follows:

Quote:
With his forthcoming World Arena Tour, Jean Michel Jarre invites the audience to journey into his singular universe; to immerse themselves totally in his world of timeless music and vision, in place and time. He promises with this unique and brand new super production to share the energy of his macro concerts with the emotions of an arena experience. With the fusion of analogue synthesisers, cutting-edge digital technology, oversize HD video projections, spectacular lasers design and lighting choreography he has conceived a show that encapsulates his signature expression and talent for creating milestone events.

Jean Michel Jarre is an innovative artist who has entertained and thrilled millions of people live and has broken several world records with attendance figures. His electronic music and singular performances have travelled the globe and left their imprint on major landmarks from Houston's Skyline, to China, to London's Docklands to the Pyramids of Egypt, to Moscow and ...

He has just concluded a sell-out tour of Europe celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the release of his break-through multi-million selling album, Oxygene.

For his upcoming World Arena Tour he has conceived a spectacular high tech production especially tailor made for arenas where he will perform music from all of his best selling albums.

Jarre revolutionised the out-door concert format with his city-scale events. For this World Arena Tour he aims to break new ground and deliver yet again a unique concert experience.

Other Bands / Invisible Touch
December 17, 2008, 05:09:36 PM
Okay, I'm a staunch Genesis supporter (see screen name) and have always considered myself an "All eras Fan" (TM Genesis forum)

I just put on the Invisible Touch album for the first time in a couple of years and...

It's really lame isn't it?

I mean, I like some of the songs (Domino, Brazilian, Tonight Tonight Tonight, Land of Confusion) but the execution is really cheesy, and the rest of the songs really are guff.

This is a really upsetting revelation for me and surely marks some kind of turning point in my top fan-dom.

Any other fans here? Not sure how much fan crossover they have with bands like Frost*!

Just picked up their new BBC Sessions album yesterday which is really good, some great performances on there and some really ramshackle but fun ones!

Sadly it seems they're 'on hiatus' so no new album any time soon.

Frost* / Entire EIMA album now on eMusic.com
November 15, 2008, 01:10:20 AM
If anyone here has an emusic account, the whole entire spanking new album got added today... woo-hoo!

And if you haven't - there's quite literally never been a better time to take the 40-day free trial!  8-)

http://www.emusic.com/dltv

You get 40 DRM free tracks during your free trial and you can cancel and keep them even if you cancel the sub after the trial, so if you can't wait for your CD to turn up you can now download the entire album legitimately!

James (hoping nervously that the band would still get any royalties emusic should pay regardless of whether or not you continue with the service after the free trial....   )

Toys / New Toys?
November 09, 2008, 11:10:51 AM
Just found 'The Little I Saw Of Cuba' - forgive me if I'm wrong but isn't this new? I don't remember seeing it on the old toys section.

I like how the toys are now intriguingly organised into albums which makes me even more curious to hear the rest of what was intended to go with these... Any chance of some more?

James
