Hello boys and girls... wow it's been a while. Hope you are all well?

1976, I don't have this (ashamed smiley) - found it on Youtube but is there a downloadable version anywhere?

D&A - Amazon now quoting cheaper than when first released but long delivery. At least I'll get a free download of the Mp3 while I wait!

Slightly off topic - did you know that you can freely stream stuff from "Freegal" which is available through your local library?. When registered this includes 5 track downloads a week (or 10 if your missus/partner also has an account). I'm assuming, and hope that the artists get paid from library funds for this?? Anyway there is a TON of stuff there if you go searching including, I think, everything released by Frost*. The download mp3 sample rate is not brilliant, but streaming is fine for dog walking with headphones, hence why I have not bought the new album yet - but will do.

I've just got myself a new amp and a subwoofer - what I have not had yet is some time to myself to give the new stuff some real welly! I'll certainly be listening to Towerblock..... and will report back. As a track, I've loved if from the word go!  :) :)

Other Bands / Chantel Mcgregor goes prog
February 14, 2017, 12:31:54 PM
Great gig this weekend (with fellow Frost*ie (tRICKy)) seeing Chantel McGregor doing her thing in Harpenden. She has more than hinted over the years to have an interest in prog (big SW fan!) and she added a 12 minute jam to her set. Her almost unique "homely" and often hilarious stage presence between songs disguises her amazing talents. Enjoy!

As most of us seem to be getting older.... Jem, to me, is looking a lot younger than he used to?  :)

Gigs / Re: Portland/Cambridge

The camels back was already definitely broken before the request from the chap on the stage to ask us to regroup to let in another 10 ticket holding straws. That was the (melted) icing on the cake!

An encore of Oxygene would have gone down well!

Still I enjoyed it after securing a wall behind me - but missing out on most of Nathans performance thanks to the PA.

I'd love to visit England and The Netherlands for a gig or two, but it's not clear yet whether Americans will be allowed to leave their homes for the next four years.  :P

Well I saw this guitarist called Robben Ford last night in England - and he definitely sounded American?

If you do want to explore, Jake, go for Surfing With Alien, Not of This Earth, Flying in A Blue Dream and The Extremist, pretty much in that order too.  I have faithfully bought every album he's ever done and seen him live lots of times but, if I'm brutally honest, it is a case of the law of diminishing returns with his later releases I'm afraid.  That said, I rather enjoyed Black Swans and Wormhole Wizards - Jem played keyboards for a few dates on that tour (although Mike Keneally played on the album).
I'd agree with that, start with the early stuff & work through in order. I find Joe a bit more consistent than Steve Vai, though Steve is a better showman live.

Ditto! What they said!

Saw him on a G3 gig in Brum a few years ago with Robert Fripp*, quite definitely the best guitar tone I've ever heard live!

*Who I didn't see as he sat at the back of the stage out of sight!!

And that says everything about why I will never go back to vinyl. It would ruin it for me, totally. And I would be waiting, on edge, on every disc I ever put on. I know CD's aren't perfect but I just don't get vinyl anymore

Totally agree. Too many things that can affect the final output, however, being fair, I have yet to compare vinyl vs CD in a straight fight. I spent years wishing they would invent an instant access format which wouldn't be open to potential damage if you wanted to listen to the same track again, and didn't come back all clicky if you played it on someone else's system etc. The only thing I miss is the packaging!

:)

I'll post the message here tomorrow...unless someone else would like to beat me to it (except manoncharles who knows the answer! ) :P

@Fogey:  do you want the extra "-" back?  ;)
This says "Thank you"?
Confused now...
Lucky I'm not on Comms,  I can't hear the morse code bit at all... Semaphore next time,  maybe?

Semaphore! - Hell, I went on a semaphore course, really hard work  - by the end of the day I was flagging badly!

Three tracks in. Loving Towerblocks, madness and genius - sound mangling to the extreme! Great lyrics too. That's my ration for today, track 4 tomorrow!

Quick question - was the signed postcard bit a random thing or was there supposed to be one in all orders?

All pre orders from The Merch Desk should have had a signed post card I believe.

Hmmmm there wasn't one in my bundle.  :'(

Nor mine - I ordered last week, so may explain. Anyways, my plan is to get that sorted at the Cambridge gig  ;)
