Messages - AndreasK

So far I really love the added dynamic range on Hyperventilate (first listen right now, actually). My readings have it at almost 1dB of added dynamics! The bass doesn't get lost anymore, cymbals lost a bit of that "phased farts of satan pitch shifted up 2 octaves" compression, kick is punchier (though Jem always does wonders mixing his kicks). I hope the rest of the songs are like this! And also here's hoping that Frost* 3 will be even less compressed!

Mixing this thing was not easy....
Friends Of Frost* / Zelda Pirates Rock?

My friend Jake and I took a few days out last month and made this song for a themed competition:

It's an arrangement of some Legend of Zelda songs which we did in a big cinematic pirate movie style. I did the guitars, drums, bass and mixing, he handled the arrangement and orchestration I don't usually share this kind of stuff outside the small community that we do it for, but I figure if anyone can give me worthwhile feedback it'll be a fan of Frost*. Anyway I hope you guys enjoy it and I very much look forward to feedback! Thanks! :)
Hahaha a small place indeed! I just saw a comment that Jem wrote on his twitter that he heard this BLM cover and thought it was awesome. I feel very proud right now!
Yeap, I headed up the Sonic 3 OCremix album, I go by Snappleman on there.
Hey hey! Thanks for the kind words, everyone. We kind of forgot about this song for about 10 months or so (like Tony mentioned), but a couple days ago I picked up the latest version we did have and just spent a day finishing it and making it nice. The animation was done with a program called MAMplayer, it lets you import MIDI files and displays interesting animations with them, it's small and free, and it kicks ass! :)

I think stalked is the wrong word. If you've done something that people love and you've reached out into the community by creating video reports, taking part in a forum, meeting everyone at gigs etc people are going to look forward to every little glimpse of Jem they can get. So no, there is no requirement for Jem to update us on everything but he's a funny sod and we all get excited from time to time.

I don't think anyone here is demanding updates, just eager to hear the news.

I didn't mean that in a completely serious way. When I say "stalked" I mean that harmless fan-like behaviour can feel like it's closing in on you sometimes. From the way Jem talk it seems like he wants to keep Frost* a relatively small project, like an escape from his dayjob and all that, so when it gets big enough that people are waiting on updates and are constantly asking for new info, he may feel like it's getting out of hand and wants to put a little cap on it. We all have our hobbies and little side projects that help us get away from the stress of life, it's just unfortunate for Jem that he's really good at his. I could be totally wrong, but that's how I see it.

Same here!
Where did all the previous posts go? Or is this blog WAY overdue and time to move to something else again?!  :?
I love the man but he's a bit random isn't he?

I was hoping for a D-50 expansion for the Fantom G but I think we're done with the expansions on this thing. I've been trying to get a good deal on a D-550 for a while, since I don't have room for another keyboard synth, and my rack is looking pathetic with only a power conditioner left in it... :(

I just upgraded to Cubase 6 and the new features are great. Of course, the new features I'm talking about are the ones you won't see advertised on the site... that being NATIVE WINDOWS 7 SUPPORT! Cubase 5 x64's multicore processor support was good but it didn't work well for all hardware profiles and didn't give that significant of a boost when compared to x86 (I couldn't use the 64bit version of C5 because my intel q6600 didn't react well to its power settings, there was no way I could get it to use more than one core). As soon as I started up Cubase 6 x64 I noticed that the load was perfectly spread across all my cores and the performance boost was noticeably better than the 32bit version. As far as VST bridge goes, I haven't used that loathsome wrapper since Cubase 4... jBridge performs miracles when it comes to using all my ram (with my planned upgrade to 32gb of ram I will FINALLY be able to turn off all disc streaming and let that load be reserved for audio tracks).

Oh and VST Expression 2 has been impressing me very very much, I just hope 3rd party VST developers start using it.

From my experience Frost fans usually start at about age 25+. At that point you (should) have somewhat of a life that would keep you from spending every moment of every day having flamewars on a messageboard about the exact velocity of the 483rd note during the first measure of a Rudess solo. So I think we're allowed to take breaks from the internet without the rest of the forum disowning us.

Well, I think Jem being such a down to earth guy makes it a lot easier for his fans to accept that he's a human being who has a life other than entertaining us. Also, speaking for myself here but there are enough musical layers to the Frost* cake to tide me over for at least another year, so I'm in no rush to start trying to absorb yet another set of new material.
