Friends Of Frost* / "RPM" featuring Jem
March 15, 2014, 03:41:41 PM
Thought you fine people would be interested.
I'm also doing the RPM, and I utterly failed. Instead of worrying about deadlines it now gives me time to do it properly, and one very proper thing about it is that it will feature our chief ironing board virtuoso on one of the choons.

;D

Not quite sure yet when it will be done, but I see no reason why it shouldn't be much longer than a month or so. It will be up on Bandcamp as soon as the last note is played.

Massive non-prog warning btw. This is my "screw that prog nonsense" project, what the kids would call EDM. 4/4 beats and analogue synths all the way.  :)

DVD mix done, another milestone in the F* universe, and not even a 'yay' on the forum?

Well, now there is.  Yay!  ;)

So? Waddya think? I'm not really into that kind of music, but I love this album, honestly.

When I think of it, this may turn out to be the shortest thread on the forum, I feel like I'm playing Highway to Hell in church.  :P

That is all. Goodnight. :)

Gear Corner / Korg MS 20 mini
March 20, 2013, 02:02:24 PM
Not enough geeky gear talk here. 8-)

So yes.. anyone interested in synths must have heard about this by now. If not, the MS 20 is a legendary piece of glorious mono synth from the mid 70's (something like that). Famous for its badass dual filters and modular-like structure with patch cables and everything. In short, a lovely vintage thing capable of some amazing sounds.

And now they have built a new one identical to the original, only slightly smaller. No improvements whatsoever, apart from the obvious MIDI and USB. And it's very affordable. :)

Who's getting one?

Gear Corner / Gear nightmares
January 26, 2013, 01:01:05 PM
Good morning, afternoon, evening, night, whatever fits your time zone or planet.

I was about to tweet, but I tweet too much already, and I couldn't fit it into a 140 character message anyway, so...

Last night I was out, gigging with the "day job" for the first time this year. Soundcheck ok, everything is top notch and sounding brilliant.
In the second set I noticed a noise similar to what you heard when you tried to connect to the internet in the 90's, mixed with the Imperial code heard on planet Hoth. Very far from the lush pad and e-piano sample I expected to hear when I hit the low E on my trusty old Fantom G.
Of course that wasn't clear at that point, it was more panic and looking over at the sound engineer, expecting to see him wee on the mixer and sparks flying.

I use a lot of samples, and it turns out every single one of them were corrupted.

No problem, I do have a backup USB stick in case anything should happen to one of them, so I turned the Fantom off during the break and plugged in the USB, then turned it back on again.

It wouldn't load up.

"Check Ram" or something similar in white letters on a blue screen. Yes, keyboards have BSOD now.

10 minutes to set 3, and I'm supposed to open with a big synth of doom playing the famous riff from 'Jump' by Sir Edwards Van Halensville.

So, run around to find a screwdriver, open the panel, rip the RAM out, looks intact, put it back in, turn it on, AND it did load just in time for me to play the intro.

Worst case scenario (excluding the apocalypse) I would have to load it up without the RAM and no USB, then it would at least load the default settings and get some kind of sound so I could play. None of my massive patches and intricate setups, but some sound to finish the gig.

I did manage to fix it in the end, but it was so close to being a complete disaster. Made my heart beat a lot faster. Fiddling with screwdrivers, memory devices and things I know little about doesn't help a lot to make me keep calm and Monotron.

So that's my story. Now share yours. :)

Friends Of Frost* / Childhood memories
November 11, 2012, 03:14:24 AM
G'day!
I just had a desire to make some music with no purpose, so I did the coolest tv theme from when I was a tiny little kid. The most fun I've had in the studio in ages. :D

Enjoy!

And this time he didn't spend many many years making one. I have to say I'm a bit excited, he usually delivers. A very special guest this time...

Friends Of Frost* / Frost* Forum Collab Song v.2
January 31, 2012, 04:53:05 PM
Making a new dedicated thread for the project. Maybe it should be gooey and sticky like the original one? :)

Our dearest leader, Cap'n, chief and master RWA has decided to step down from the role as the organizer and producer, so I'm the new boy putting it together. Not a leader, just the one buggering about with knobs and faders, glue, scissors and crayons.
Because of this, a new Box.com account has been created for future use, the other one belongs to Ron after all. I've got 5GB of space on it. :D

Therefore, I need everyone who want to participate to PM me your email address, so I can invite you to the new sharing place. I'll make folders for each one of you, where you can upload your files.

Upload your files in 44,1khz WAV format, preferably 24bit. 16bit also works if you don't have the 24bit option available.
It would also be nice if you include the tempo in the filename when you add a part.

Well, off we go then. :D

Friends Of Frost* / FFCS v.2. Thoughts?
January 30, 2012, 11:08:18 AM
Good morning!
I was just thinking, anyone in the mood for a new Frost* Forum Song? The first one was SO much fun to be a part of, watch it grow from a variation on a theme to a full 16 minute beast of progressive prog. Working like that with no deadline, no pressure, only adding a bit now and then, it's great. There are lots of brilliant creative minds around here. :)

Of course, everyone is welcome to join, add a bit, start the project, whatever you want. A Frost* theme or original, it's up to you.

I already have a tiny little idea, but I'll let it spin in my head for a bit.

What do you think?

Any Other Business / Traveling to the UK
December 07, 2011, 05:46:44 AM
So yes... I'm flying over to see a so-called band play a gig next week. ;)

But, I have a day before that, to experience that Londonville town. Because this is a Christmas present for myself, I plan to live life to the max and experience things. Already making a list, but... where does one go out and eat? Anyone have some nice places to recommend? Nice, but not insanely expensive, and I won't be wearing a suit and tie... though maybe a monocle.

Any Other Business / The photo thread
December 03, 2011, 04:45:24 AM
Or is there already such a thread here? Too lazy to search...

Who else are into this artform?

I just remembered, I used to do tons of photos, in a strange period of my life when music was basically dead to me. Gotta do something creative all the time. Just like my music, things tend to go off in a rather strange direction...

Anyway, I browsed the old photo folder tonight, and was surprised to find tons and tons of stuff. It's like watching someone else's work. So, what better place to post some of them?

To the real photographers and visual artists, I know nothing about composition and the so called "rules", I just go with it. It's not strictly photography anyway. More like how things look if you smoke too much of something, I guess.

Well I never... Maybe there's hope for prog after all? I never imagined that would happen.

This restored my faith in humanity.  :)
