Friends Of Frost* / "RPM" featuring Jem
March 15, 2014, 03:41:41 PM
Thought you fine people would be interested.
I'm also doing the RPM, and I utterly failed. Instead of worrying about deadlines it now gives me time to do it properly, and one very proper thing about it is that it will feature our chief ironing board virtuoso on one of the choons.

;D

Not quite sure yet when it will be done, but I see no reason why it shouldn't be much longer than a month or so. It will be up on Bandcamp as soon as the last note is played.

Massive non-prog warning btw. This is my "screw that prog nonsense" project, what the kids would call EDM. 4/4 beats and analogue synths all the way.  :)

Sounds awesome. :D

"Watching". I check it once in a while. It's more a source of good gif files than anything else.

It's a bit much, frankly. But, it's a collector's item, and I have a very special deal with the people who import Korg to the country, so it'll be significantly cheaper.

For most people the Mini would make more sense. Apart from the different filter versions they should sound identical.

Oh, and I believe a certain Frost* drummer has tons of videos on the different kits on Youtube, recordings of clinics etc. Convenient. ;)

Ello sir. :)

How about a Roland TD-11K or something like that? All those kits come in many configurations, depending if you want simple pads or mesh heads on all the drums and things like that (TD-11KV). No idea about UK pricing, but that one should give you quite a lot for the money.

Or the TD-15, but that'll cost you a bit more. It's a really nice sounding module IMO. A lot of fun to set up custom kits, even an idiot like me could do that without reading any manual. But, it depends how important sound is for pure practice.

The Korg Santa has got a MS-20 kit. Oh, and there was the most neat little software compressor I've ever heard as well. :)

I think I might sometimes have pretty good pitch recall, in that when I am thinking of some songs I can hum or whistle the first note before playing it and I'll be spot on.

This is interesting.  I have a really good ear for a tune, although that doesn't help me remember where to put my fingers much.  But when I am 'singing' a song in my head, and go to the real version, I am always in the wrong key.  Very odd.
Maybe you have a perfect fifth.  ;)

Oh, and Roland... who knows? They'll launch their Aira line in February, which is a 808/909/new drum machine which may be partly analogue, most likely something to follow up the SH 101 and TB 303 too... and who knows what else. I don't hold my breath, but they may finally have jumped on the "EDM" wagon after a few embarrassing years. They did the awesome V-Synth and the nice but slightly dull sounding GAIA, but that's it.

They did sort of launch a "Fantom Light" now, but no proper flagship yet, at least not in my opinion. No after touch? Seriously?

Yamaha don't care. They make awesome pianos.

Kurz is always a mystery.

I have no idea how it really works. It's not really useful for anything in any musical situation, other than getting a guitar up to tune without a tuner nearby, or at least pretty close to it.

It's almost like a synesthesia thing, linking notes with colours or images. I remember noting at the 2011 F* gig that they were tuned down, it was bleedin obvious to me but others thought it was black magic. It's just timbre changes when notes are changed. Or something. It's weird.

Oh, and playing tuned down instruments can feel very strange. You get used to it. :)
