Support act was Oldfield junior's band Gypsyfingers, who sound like Clannad with MO on guitar. If you get the chance, see them

So I  asked about nothing in the NW and they said stop moaning and come to Halifax which is just over an hours drive from me, so doable. Have to sneak past the Tyke border but Mickey did it to watch Frost* from the other direction so it can't be all that hard

Friday night I went to see Tiger Moth Tales, featuring everyone's second favourite keyboard player, but they didn't do any original stuff, just a bunch of Camel covers.

Seriously, really enjoyed it, Pete was brill and (deservedly) got a standing ovation for his sax playing. 2 photos, which probably won't get used in the band's promo shots.

So yesterday I had a whole day of wallowing (open eyes) in nostalgia. First I went to Anfield, to watch Liverpool legends vs Real Madrid legends, played for charity in front of a nearly full house (55000ish). It was fun, it was gentle, the old heroes showed their chops, Liverpool won 4-3 (having been 4-0 up with 10 minutes to go) but I wouldn't do it every day. Even Steven Gerrard is over the hill. Still...

I then drove through the bloody awful Liverpool traffic, the M62 and it's roadworks and through the bloody awful Manchester traffic to see a bunch of has beens Anderson, Rabin & Wakeman, to go through the motions of a few lovely old songs and I would be happy.

Except no one told ARW, who decided that they weren't remotely interested in  going out quietly and went at it hell for leather. They've got a fab rhythm section with tons of power, Trevor Rabin who is still a rock god, Wakey, who's just remembered that he is famous for being a bastard keyboard player (though he looks like he going produce triplets any day now!) and, best of all, 72 year old Jon Anderson, who's singing could pass for 32. Power, chops, emotion, humour, I don't remember Yes playing anything like this (I didn't see them until the early 2000's), even when JA & RW were in the band. Absolutely loved it. And they seem to have the energy to move forward with things (unlike the legends) which is even better.

Wasn't expecting that. Just shows, you can't keep an old dog down. Or something.

PS I took some pics and looked at them and realised why we need Mike Evs. 

Nick Beggs, Roger King and Marco Minnemann have released their second LP. I like it and I suspect a lot here will as it's proggy pop, or possibly poppy prog. Their website http://themutegods.com/tmg/
has several videos on it of an interview between Mssrs B&K which are well worth watching. Nick Beggs is bouncy and enthusiastic and Roger King....well, it's well worth watching. Particularly the discussion of individual songs ("This is another song that Roger hates")

I do wonder though, between these and Jem's Frost* reports, Inside Out's PR guy really isn't taking things too seriously.

As a late coming utter incompetant in creating music I get totally confused by what chords go well with one another. I was told about an app which I never got round to buying called Fiddlewax Pro which cost about £15 (not cheap for an iPad app) which was made for students and other idiots.
The designer has just rebranded it with some updates and called it Firo. It is free until the end of July and is really well done. Recommended at twice the price! Seriously if anyone else is confused with this stuff check it out. If you don't like it you can always delete it. It dous as a midi controller/recorder too

I'd not seen this before, so apologies if you have. Mainly for Brits of a certain age (!)but I'm guessing a fair chunk of it will ring bells with those in far flung lands, too
