Other Bands / Kevin Gilbert "Mere Image"
August 02, 2012, 01:21:20 AM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMXXwHN- ... ure=relmfu

Not sure how many Kevin Gilbert fans are lurking on the board, but I dug up this piece of his from way back in 86. Really great song. Especially considering he must have been around 19 or 20 when this was released. Felt like sharing!

Now.  I can't see something like this without seeing opportunity.  So, I sent them this e-mail...

"I want you to write me a progressive rock epic in line with bands like Dream Theater, Circus Maximus, and Pain of Salvation.  I want the song to be 37 minutes long.  If it doesn't have at least 80 meter changes, it's not prog enough.  I have lyrics ready.  It's about a man who wakes up after dreaming this existential nightmare.  Then, he visits his wise oracle-scientist-vigilante uncle and tells him about his dream. His uncle reminds him that dreams are just a "Progression of Truth: Ghost Magnesium Sphere pt. 1" (THATS THE SONG NAME) and that he should get his life together.  The man agrees and heads home.  Upon arriving home, he finds himself sleeping in his bed, at which point he wakes up, having forgotten the last 27 years of his life.  For years, he scours the Earth for answers only to find that the only truth in life is the truth in death.

I want numerous guitar solos in super locrian, whole-tone, and throw in some harmonic minor scales too - the faster the better.  The song will start in 9/8.  It will end in 13/4 and resolve in the last measure in 4/4.  And if you've done your math correctly, you'll find that 13-9= 4.  And 8-4= 4.  4/4.  WHOA.  DEEP.

In the song, I want lots of hammond organ usage mixed in with deep, highly-reverberated choirs.

The singer should sound like a mix between Geddy Lee from Rush and Tiny Tim.  But higher.

Do you think you can do this?"

Other Bands / Daffy's Elixir
April 26, 2012, 05:54:53 AM
Anybody get a chance to hear the new Bryan Scary album, "Daffy's Elixir?" I just started it, myself. So far, it's sounding pretty fab.

If you're unfamiliar with Bryan Scary and the Shredding Tears... They're a brooklyn-based progressive/psychedelic/pop/rock band - very creative and eccentric music. Their album "Flight of the Knife" is definitely worth checking out.

Other Bands / Am I Insane?
April 11, 2012, 11:23:07 PM
I recently had a listen to (Lord give me strength...) Panic! At the Disco's album "Pretty. Odd." And... it's good? It's a little baroque pop/psychedelic rock effort. Every time I listen to it though, I feel like I have to turn off the lights, lock the doors, and pretend nobody's home. Am I crazy? Has anyone else heard this album and liked it? I need to know that I'm not alone here...

Gear Corner / More sampling help...
February 22, 2012, 08:58:07 PM
Okay. I've got my fantom G7 here. I've formatted the usb stick and shoved my AIFF/wav files into it in the IMPORT folder. When I connect it to the fantom, it shows that the files are on the stick, but when I try to import them, it just says "illegal file."

Anyone know why this might be?

Gear Corner / Synthesis
January 16, 2012, 07:06:44 AM
How does one begin to learn about synthesizers? I just got a GAIA SH-01. I have a vague understanding of some of the terms. But I can't seem to find any concrete tutorials on general synthesis.

Any Other Business / "Down, Down Down"
October 05, 2011, 12:37:48 AM
Watching old Frost* reports.  Came across "Frost April C."  There's a song that Jem's playing with at about 2:25.  There's a little header that reads "Meanwhile in pop land..." What is this song??? Anyone know?

January 12, 2011, 07:57:53 PM
DId these awhile back.... songs are still a work in progress and I recorded these when my Fantom was still new so I hadn't really gotten around to generating a better keyboard lead than this... but eh... be gentle...

Gear Corner / Fantom G - assigning samples to pedals?
January 11, 2011, 03:45:02 AM
Can it be done?  And if it can... how?  It'd make my life a million times easier...

I'm aware I could check the manual.  But it just confuses me.  I'd much rather ask a very chipper and supportive forum

I woke up to this:

I could delete everything off my desktop except "Double Penetration Horse Porn."

That had been made a part of the background.
