Gigs / Manchester last night
December 05, 2010, 09:43:18 AM
Just wanted to say thanks to The Chaps for an excellent gig in Manchester last night. JM's voice got lost in the mix a bit early on, but apart from that there was barely a glitch. This might just have been the best of my six Frost* gigs: some unbelievable drumming from Blunders, squeaky vocals from Nathan and plenty of banter too: what more could you want? :D (It should go without saying that JM and Jem were fab. ;) )

I was also impressed by the size (and enthusiasm) of the audience. And the average age was lower than I expected too. Could it be that Frost are becoming popular?

Nice to meet Mouse, D S and Fogeyspasm too. See you in Derby...

In case you haven't discovered it already, there's a very useful DIY forum at vdrums.com, which you might want to check out if you're serious about making your own pads/triggers. They tend to assume you'll be using a Roland module (not surprising given that it's a V-Drum forum), but you should be able to get the designs working with other modules too, or with a trigger-to-MIDI converter if you're going the software route.

The Manchester gig was fab. We got a (rather hurried) Horizons as a prelude to Blood On The Rooftops, but apart from that the set was pretty much as reported above. I really enjoyed the show: much better than the last time Mr Hackett visited Manchester, IMO.  :D

I spent most of the gig stood next to Peter Nicholls of IQ fame. (Though I only realized that towards the end.) Anyone else going to IQ at Islington the day after DOTR at The Peel? (Yes, I know it clashes with Tinyfish, but...   )

Thanks for the write-up, DS.

I'm going to see Mr Hackett in Manchester tonight. I was already looking forward to it, but now I'm in a state of heightened anticipation

This one will be self-referential

I bought the CD based on a few YouTubes, but unfortunately it hasn't quite lived up to expectations.

This recent clip of their cover of "Back In NYC" looks interesting though. Shame about the sound quality.  :(

Perhaps we will restore us some sanity,
Never mind that. Did you know a manatee
    Is called a sea cow?
    You're smart; take a bow!
Why, thanks! (That helps feed my vanity.)

It's time for a rhyme about Blunders

Err... that'll teach me to ask a rhetorical question ;)

But, since you ask, how about:
Vanden Plas (No, not that one.)
Stream of Passion (Not seen them since they toured with Arjen Lucassen. And speaking of which...)
Star One / Ayreon / whatever Arjen Lucassen wants to tour as

Sadly, not a big fan of Pete Morten's solo stuff
