Announcements / 6 More Weeks
February 08, 2009, 12:43:35 PM
OK now that bastard rodent is pissing me off. He has now forecast another
6 weeks of winter AGAIN as he always does every year now. I think it's
time for him to step down now.  He should be exiled back into the wilderness.
Send out the hounds!

I wished he'd run out into a freeway in front of an unsuspecting 18 Wheeler.
Surely it's a conspiracy. I think someone has been secretly paying him on the side.

Other Bands / Hackett remasters
February 04, 2009, 04:17:09 AM
I know these have been out for a couple few years now but I finally broke down
and ordered his first 3 albums on Amazon for a good price.  Voyage of the Acolyte
is on back order but Please Don't Touch and Spectral Mornings showed up today.

I'm really liking the diversity of PDT and I think this is a brilliant album. I completely forgot
Steve Walsh sang on Narnia. Richie Havens is a nice surprise as well.  Too bad Walsh
never did a full album as his voice worked well in Steve's music IMHO.  I heard the clips
online and as soon as I heard Carry on up the Vicarage I knew i had to have this cd.

Yet another discovery of 'new' old music by a favorite artist.

The other two albums I already had but felt it was time to update for better sound quality.
I'll eventually get his other albums but not sure where to start. Defector perhaps?

Other Bands / The Wishing Tree - Ostara
February 02, 2009, 12:06:42 AM
Just found this out on myspace!!! The brand new Wishing Tree album "Ostara" is
finally done and I'm going on over to rackett to pre-order very soon.  There is a
free MP3 you can download for the song "Hollow Hills" and you can hear a preview
of the other songs on the album found here:

http://www.reverbnation.com/thewishingtree

Finally we get to hear more of the guitar work Mr. Rothery has been best known for
and lots of guitars on this one too at that. I'm already beginning to wonder if this
is really the new Marillion album that I've been waiting for  ;)

just kidding....maybe......

oh I almost forgot, the release date is March 23rd.

Anybody else dig these guys?  I've been going through a rediscovery phase with their
music and it still blows my mind to this day. It has left me wondering what happened
to good rock music these days. Most modern rock bands I've heard lately by far pale
in comparison to what these guys were doing.

Other Bands / Deep Purple?
December 22, 2008, 01:32:33 AM
OK I'm a bit curious now. I was never really into them for years but now I may
venture into things. Any particular recommendations? I really dig "Hush" and
loved it when they played at Live 8 in Canada. "Perfect Strangers" is cool too.

I don't imagine buying their whole catalog, but wouldn't even mind a best of
cd or two.

Gear Corner / Pro Tools 8.0
December 18, 2008, 05:04:20 AM
It's out NOW and I'm currently downloading all 4.2 gig worth of it.
Thats not including all the extra 3rd party goodies you get too.
There is about 9 gig total but there is around 5 gig of loops you get too
but I could care less about that.

Even us Mpowered users get Melodyne Essential and BFD lite v8.0 along with it.

Sweet. Gonna be messing around with this all day tomorrow.

Gear Corner / Calling all Logic users
December 14, 2008, 05:14:04 PM
Recording Delay offset. Anyone experience this? It's a setting found in the Audio prefs.
I was poking around in the Logic forums and stumbled upon this thread.

http://www.logicprohelp.com/viewtopic.p ... cord+delay

If any fellow Logic users out there who aren't aware of what this setting does should
read this discussion. I was shocked to see Logic was placing newly recording audio
files about 56 samples early before previously recorded audio files. I kind of
just went along recording stuff and always felt something was quite right but couldn't
pin it down. Then I read this topic and performed a simple loopback test and determined
things are out of wack.

I HIGHLY recommend every Logic user do this test. You might be surprised at what you find.
Most cases, depending on the 3rd party audio drivers, your audio is usually placed AFTER
your other files. In some cases, such as mine, your audio will end up EARLY.  I'm going to
go to the Logic feedback page and fill out the form and beg Logic engineers to fix this issue.
Cubase/Nuendo users never have to worry about this as their apps actually test your
hardware/drivers and properly calculate the recording delay offsets.

anyhoo, dunno if any of you ran into this, but I'd thought I'd give a heads up.

Any Other Business / Whats for dinner?
December 08, 2008, 11:11:46 PM
Tonight the main course is Italian Wedding soup proceeded by home made spinach dip
served with Triscuit wafers and veggies.

Ah yes nothing like a nice hot bowl of soup on a cold winter night.

Any Other Business / SNOW
November 17, 2008, 01:52:55 PM
Well winter has officially arrived in typical Central New York Style.
The lake effect snow beast has made it's return overnight and has
dumped about 7-8 inches of snow on us as of this morning.
Not only has it been snowing 2 inches an hour, but it's come in with
a flash and a bang complete with thunder and lightning.

Glad I have a brand new 4 wheel drive vehicle. I'm fairly confident of
my winter driving abilities,it's the other idiots out there I'm concerned
about when I'm out there. I usually take the back roads to and from work
as I can take my time.

Frost* / FROST* brand Biscuits?
November 16, 2008, 05:00:47 PM
Hmm maybe you could start your own production of FROST* biscuits Jem?

We could all help out. it would be kinda like having the Keebler elf's around.
Surely there could be an endorsement to be had?

Other Bands / Genesis Box #3
November 14, 2008, 12:08:47 AM
Just got my copy today and I have to say this is really quite good. Everything sounds fantastic!
They didn't mess around too much and a lot of stuff has been brought forward that you
couldn't hear before.

I only wish I waited and ordered the SACD/NTSC version. I'm going to wait a while
and find all 3 boxes in either format so I can have SACD versions.

Frost* / Hellay!!!
November 09, 2008, 01:22:53 AM
I'm probably the last one to cross over from the 'old' forum on the other side.
Glad to see the party just started!!!

Though my name EVP is new, I myself am not. I'm Brian formerly "Skyflash" from
the old forum.   ;)  I got bored with the name and decided to use EVP as quite
fittingly, I managed to capture an EVP whilst shooting some video on a recent adventure
of sorts   (electronic voice phenomenon, a disembodied voice form the past)

Anyway not to spook anyone out!! I must say it's very nice and cozy in here.
I can smell the fresh warm biscuits coming right out of the oven. Time to sit
with a cup of green decaf and chat for a bit.

I'll have to say I stopped at the CRS shop and went on a splurge and bought
2 shirts, a beanie and the EIMA signed preorder. I should have cleared my
browsers cache out I would have bought direct from here...doh!
