Any Other Business / Re: Genesis - When In Rome
January 09, 2011, 05:43:34 PM
Yeah I heard the rumor that Phil was having "suicidal thoughts" and thought it was another cruel lie or joke
someone decided to post on the internet. Then I read the rolling stone article and it kind of put things into
perspective. I hope things turn around for him.

The DVD is great though and I think I might just pop it in and watch it right now.

Quote from: "Mouse"I got that DVD as well. It wouldn't surprise me if many other people did, too. Actually, I might watch it again tonight...

I also finally got the Fourth Edition of Storm Thorgerson's excellent book Mind Over Matter. Hundreds of high quality Pink Floyd images and the stories behind them? Heaven.  :D

I however did not receive the DVD nor Storm Thorgerson's book but it surely appears that
I need both of them now as I was recently thinking I'd forgotten all about the DVD and
I've had big time OCD over the early Pink Floyd era music the past week.

BTW Nick Mason's "Inside Out" is an absolute must if you don't already have it.

I just read the blog and I don't think any of it has to do with Frost unless I missed something?
I think it has more to do with his domestic situation with having moved and not happy with
where he is. I can't say I blame him really. As I understood it, the plan for Frost was to do
little bits of music here and there whenever the inspiration and time was right.  There is no
contract so Jem is free to do with as he wishes and I think the new business plan is smart.

He just spent weeks preparing for the recent shows and had a ton of day job work to get done
all the while having to deal with old man winter barreling down on the U.K. I think the man rightfully
deserves a much needed break from everything and when the dust settles he can find a new ground.
It seems Frost has probably taken a good portion of his time allotted to 'fun' stuff, and as fun as it may be
there is still a lot of work involved in making the world turn round. I'm sure it just has become
part of the machine lately.

A lot can happen over the next 12 months and I think we'll be hearing more new Frost* music
some time over the next year. Jem, if you're reading this, take care, enjoy the holidays, stay safe and
healthy enjoy what tickles your fancy! We're here because we love you and the entire Frost* experience
and we'll still be here.....unless the planet blows up or something :o

This place is awesome. Thankyou Jem,Dec,Andy,John,Craig,Nathan and other members of Frostmas past

health and fortunes.

I extend all my wishes to my fellow Frosties on board here as well. You are all what makes this place so family like.

Gear Corner / Re: Pro Tools 9

When they are saying 32 I/O it is actually 32 inputs and 32 outputs ;)  So you'll have plenty to work with.
It all depends on what interface you have really. And the Core Audio/ASIO support is no joke either.
Lot's of people running down to 64 or 32 buffer sizes with 3rd party interfaces and getting great performance.

Gear Corner / Pro Tools 9
November 22, 2010, 03:23:33 AM
I just ordered my crossgrade from Sweetwater here in the U.S. and it will be shipping out tomorrow!! YIPEEE!!

I know many here probably dislike Pro Tools and prefer other DAW's. I've actually been a Logic user
about 90% of the time the other 10% using Pro Tools for doing transfers and editing. I too thought
that LE and Mpowered were rather undernourished but now that PT 9 has full delay comp, 96 tracks
out of the box 256 busses and the fact that you can now use ANY 3rd Party Core Audio or
ASIO compatable interface you want it changes the game for me big time. I can see myself mixing
a lot more in Pro tools now.

There's still no offline bounce or track freeze but you can bet it's on Avid's list to include it now.
They've really turned around IMHO and I like where they are headed and are actually listening to
customers now and being open.

Awesome I can't wait to use Pro Tools with my Apogee One.  I'll report back in a few days.

Frost* / Re: New Frost* Report!
November 01, 2010, 10:29:54 PM
Thankyou for posting another Frost report Jem!  This really made my evening after having an incredibly
bad week last week. It's good to have some laughs. Anybody who's been playing and been in the business
knows that you have to have a sense of humor in order to get by. When you are around other people
that have a sense of humor it makes the job part of it more enjoyable and it can have a positive effect
on the music in the end.

I'd rather see guys having fun behind the scenes then being all dark and serious all the time.
Frost isn't a goth band for crikey sakes! I think your more liable to loose peoples interests
if you take yourself too seriously as an artist.

Gear Corner / Pro Tools HD Native is here.
October 06, 2010, 02:40:24 AM
I just found this out on Gearslutz. Russ over at the AiR users blog mentioned something new would be coming
from Avid and after all the rumors and chatter, it's finally confirmed and here.

"New Pro Tools|HD Native Added to the Avid Audio Product Line for only $3495!"

"This morning, Avid Professional Audio, formerly known as Digidesign, announced the arrival of their new Pro Tools|HD Native system, making use of the speed and performance of today's native computer processors and bringing the price of an HD system into the truly affordable range! The Pro Tools|HD Native core card will retail for only $3495, and is compatible with all HD Series interfaces, both the new series of I/O (HD Omni, HD I/O, and HD MADI), but the legacy "Blue" series (192 I/O, 192 Digital I/O, etc.). You can chain up to 4 I/O together for a total of 64 channels of audio, or interface with a single HD MADI I/O. With extremely low latency for a native system, not only will you have the full feature set of the included Pro Tools|HD software, you'll also have an open system using Core Audio and ASIO to run your Logic, Nuendo, Wavelab or other software. "

Still too pricey for me especially as I don't own a Mac Pro but it looks like a nice mid priced pro option for
people who can't afford an HD 2/3 system.

Other Bands / Re: Collins calls time on Genesis
September 17, 2010, 01:06:22 PM
Having heard this from the one who was the most optimistic it does sound like it's really the end.
He does have his latest project to promote and with family life being #1 on top of that I'm sure
the idea of doing anything more with Genesis requires more work than he'd be up to.

I'm glad I got to see them in 2007. It's hard to believe it was 3 years ago already.
