Any Other Business / Re: Britishisms (Reprise)
December 11, 2008, 04:12:35 PM
I'm so pissed that I'm pissed with myself for being so pissed in the first place, so promptly pissed myself. Because I'm pissed. Clear?

I know nothing about computers. I'm a technophobe. They hate me and I hate them. Why I'm doing a Foundation Degree course in Music Production is still a mystery, even to me. But I need to get a laptop. I've been told to get one with a dual processor thingie and can only afford somewhere between £300 and £400.

And no bloody Macs, for I hate them most of all. Even more so than I hate David Cameron and Simon Cowell. Grrr...

Can anyone help point out a model that might suit me?

There's a fine line between Progressive Rock bands and Regressive Progressive Rock bands...

Frost* / Re: Pictures of/with Frost*

In fact, maybe Jem (once he's got time of course, his schedule seems to be chaotic right now) could set up a Gallery section on the website. We could all gather these photos together and the band could choose the best for the site! I think The Who do something similar over on their website (http://www.thewho.com/) A good idea?

Quote from: "Rick"i was thinking about secret song, should have been used as the soundtrack  :)
Could've stuck it in the Tardis :D

Hmm, maybe Jem's going to be the Eleventh Doctor...

Quick, inform The Sun - we have an exclusive here!  ;)  :D

I actually really admire Jem for turning down the offer. True courage, if you ask me! Well done sir!

Hopefully the opportunity will arise again at a more appropriate time. Contact with Mike Portnoy will ensure the rise of this little "hobby" we all love!

Although, Frost* and Dream Theater on the same bill? Maybe too many notes/time signatures for one to take?!

I think I've said this somewhere else before, but there's quite a few photos from the Leeds gig in July on my MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/sigma6music). They've got their own photo album, so should be easy to find!  ;)

When I get back home in a week, I'll try to remember to upload the rest, if there are any.

(Also, forgive my haircut in the photo of me with Jem - I got pissed off with my fringe that very afternoon and cut it off. Big mistake. It's still growing back...  :( )

I find that most news-based media use fear as some kind of sadistic tool. People who are scared will watch or buy anything that could tell them how to survive whatever giant cataclysm is approaching the Human race in general, even if it's just an invention of some prick in a shed with a typwriter.

It's like that bird flu panic a few years ago. The papers said we could all be dead by morning and I bet sales went up. Skip to the present day, still no sign of armageddon...

"The Blues ain't about feeling better, it's about making other people feel worse!" - Bleeding Gums Murphy
"Sometimes there isn't a chord ugly enough to describe how I'm feeling, so you have to rely on a giraffe filled with whipped cream." - Frank Zappa

And one which may prove to be controversial...

"I hate compression with a vengeance." - Alan Parsons

Ahh, does anyone know the chords for any of Milliontown? Particularly The Only Survivors section, all I've got so far is D and F.

Any Other Business / The Best Quotes Of All Time...Ever!
December 10, 2008, 08:23:49 PM
I've been inspired by Pedro's ingenious line on another thread whose name evades me to try to compile the best quotes of all time. I'd like to mention a few to try and get a ball rolling...

"Time flies like an arrow, fruit flies like a banana." - Pedro
"Red sky at night..." "...laser guided!" - Jem Godfrey and Sir Declan Of Burke
"It's Prog o' clock!" - JJ
"A coward you may be Withnail, an expert on bulls you are not!" - Marwood
"It is arse gravy of the worst kind..." - Stephen Fry (on the Da Vinci Code)
"Ted! Harrison Ford's been committed for a crime he didn't commit, and he's-oh no wait, it's a film." - Father Dougal Maguire (while reading the newspaper)

Ithankyou.

Quote from: "Pedro"Nice one, Centurion.  :)

Time flies like an arrow, fruit flies like a banana.

Aw, that's the Quote Of The Day for me! Nice one, Pedders!

Holy crap, 0 guests is back! What do I do? Hello? Anyone?!

Curse the fact I don't have my own computer and have to come into college to use the library ones in the evening and that's a time when no-one seems to be online! I'll keep myself busy by trying to think of something as brilliant as that quote. For now, I'll use this one as an escape method:

"Shit - drop the tea, run!"

IT
VERY
WELL COULD
turn out to be one
very spec tacular concert all the same

Hell... I can't see the last line...

I read it as something like "apec testicular cancer all the same", but now I've just quoted it, I can see how wrong I am.   Maybe I should get my eyes tested!  :D

I saw Focus at Hull City Hall with The Groundhogs and Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash. Excellent performance, full of insanisty and quiet beautiful instrumentation. I waited around after the gig and actually got them to sign my flyer for the gig!  :)

I don't know if I uploaded the photos to my MySpace page, but if they are there the link's in my signature... (Desperate plug, I know!) Oh wow! This smilie thing's called 'Mr. Green'! -

Excellent. I'm happy now.

Ask Frost* / Re: Do I Have A Problem?

Quote from: "Philadelphia"You can always add a little "spookiness" to a song with a Mellotron.

That's what attracted me to the sound in the first place. That manufactured yet quite realistic sound creates an atmosphere that I find many of today's modern sounds are too realistic sounding to achieve. It's ethereal and dare I say Gothic? Gothic in the old cathedral sense, of course.

However, my all-time favourite keyboard sound will always be the Hammond organ! See Rick Wright's playing on Echoes on David Gilmour's Live In Gdansk CD/DVD/massive box set thingie...

I'm actually quite surprised I haven't been killed to death yet! Does that mean that I'm actually part of a community?!

Ask Frost* / Do I Have A Problem?
December 09, 2008, 08:08:14 PM
I like Mellotrons. There, I said it and I do apologise. I'm preparing to run...

I love that metallic string sound - see The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway for why I think it's a beautiful sound.

However! I hate that choir voice sound - see the first few seconds of The Great Nothing by Spock's Beard for why it's an horiffic sound!

Over to you lot - do I have a problem?

(Next time: I like Emerson Lake And Palmer, do I have a problem? If you've been affected by this topic and would like to complain, please throw your burning hatred in the direction of The Mouse Hole, PO Box...)
