Anybody live in the Letchworth area?

I've bought a Fantom G7 from a very nice man there, but for obvious current family reasons I can't embark on a voyage up there to get it for at least 10 days.

If anybody happened to be near there and was due to come to Somerset for an even more inexplicable reason in the next 2 weeks, I'd be very happy to pay petrol and provide much tea/biscuitness upon arrival if you'd be so kind as to pick up aforementioned synth behemoth and thwap it down here en route to your destination.

I do have a plan b, but I just thought I'd ask before implementing it.  :D

Hello, happy to say I can now confirm the "P" for our Defence Of The Realm at Summer's End will be the fantabulous Pete Trewavas. We've been chatting on and off for quite a while now about sharing a stage together and the planets have finally aligned. I'm properly excited.

What with Unto Us AND Tinyfish, it's gonna be a seriously proper good night out.  8-)

News on the final "J" soon!

Gear Corner / Shiny shiny
April 21, 2010, 07:38:29 AM
So I think after nearly 4 years sterling service, countless jingles, one Experiment In Mass Appeal, a live album, 40 (ish) Frost Reports, a Dividing Line and some hefty emailing, it's time to retire my trusty dual core G5 and get a super shiny 8 core. And go to ProTools 8. Finally.

Does anybody know if the RAM from a mid 2006/7 G5 is compatible with a new one?

Announcements / Frost Vs ELP
April 08, 2010, 05:53:29 PM
Hooooo yesssss!

We've just been asked to cover an ELP song for a tribute CD Classic Rock Presents Prog are doing. Although I love the Emerson Lake and Powell album the best, I felt it only right and proper to go for the jugular so.... we're doing "Fanfare For The Common Man".

If Frost are gonna do ELP, doing "Fanfare..." only seems right and proper.  :D  8-)

I have some unhinged planned for it though... ;)

Announcements / The Dividing Line - Lyrics
April 07, 2010, 10:31:46 AM
And you thought the music was bonkers...

THE DIVIDING LINE

The Now -

I'm a plastic bag of miracles
A pocket full of lie

A bubble burst, a future cursed
I'm a warning, who am I?

The Press -

I can see your every move, be careful where you tread
Your universe is hanging by a thread

All –

We fall into the future
A doorway open wide
The ending ever closer
Drawing out the line that will divide
We fall into the future
A chance to stay alive

The Press -

Who'll miss you when you're over?

The Star –

Watch me as I change before your eyes

The Now -

One hand open one hand turned
The sleight of chemistry

On a quarter turn, your world will burn
If you take the fight to me

The Public - Far out...

The TV Judge - I wanna be vunerable...

The Public - Far out...

The Publicist (to the TV Judge) - Almost believable...

The Public - Pushing far out...

The Outsiders - You're whole in the ground, dig dig dig dig dig dig dig away...

All –

We fall into the future
A doorway open wide
The ending ever closer
Drawing out the line that will divide
We fall into the future
A chance to stay alive

The Press -

Who'll miss you when you're over?

The Star –

Watch me as I change before your eyes

The Money Men -

When my work is done
So the silver sun
Hide my face away...

The Now -

It makes no sense here
The watcher's on the fence here

2007 - Good times, let them roll

The Now -

You people bleeding
You junkster fuckers feeding

2007 - Fast food for the soul

The Now -

Imitation valentine
My heart is frozen under fire

Enemy
But you knew me better than I knew myself
And you said to me
We'd be the the story I could never tell.
Well well...

You're not so clever
You're caught in heavy weather, right now

2007 - Watch the water fall

The Now -

You're in denial
You ran that extra mile

2007 - Nothing new at all

The Now -

Crawling time, see what you find
Fish for grime, death on the line

That Man In The Suit -

Ladies and gentlemen
You can relax now
Your world is now officially a better place!

Trust me!...

The Now – No More!

That Man In The Suit -

Sure you look skinny honey
Just keep spending that beautiful money

The Now – No More!

That Man In The Suit -

Grease those wheels people
What could possibly go wrong?
I'm saving the world for you
Isn't it beautiful?
We can be so happy.
Would I let you down?

The Now - You are all liars!

The Outsiders -

Free the horses, we want to ride
Lost in the space of the big outside

Take our chances against the tide
Sing with the voices of those who tried

What-ho!

Just to say after 8 weeks of mentalist sloggery culminating in this last week of 18 hour days, TDL is in the can.  :P

My HUGE thanks to all 8 valiant warriors who took part, Johnny M, Johhny B, Nathan, Tara, Lyndon, Andy, Mark and Sir Dec of Burkeshire. I just need to do a quick keyboard solo for the Peter Garbiel/Snowman mashup that is also getting an airing on Saturday and then it's all good to go.

Frost's bit starts at 7.30pm US time on Saturday, I think that might well be horrible o' clock here in Blighty, but I'm sure they'll stream it afterwards.

I see the new site's up and running. TBH, I've not had a chance to have a look round yet and tonight's not the time to either, I'm absolutely friar tucked.

Back soon and thank 'ee all for your patience and jolly marvellous encouragement. Bourbons all round I reckon.  :D

Gear Corner / Radiophonic Plug In
March 25, 2010, 12:09:29 AM
Anybody here who might be a Radiophonic Workshop fan?

If you're (like me) a rabid RABID Maida Vale fanatic you can now own your own 1960's Radiophonic Workshop courtesy of Giogio Sancristoforo who's basically invented a time machine which, in itself is wonderfully poignant, if you get my drift.  ;)

http://www.gleetchplug.com/Gleetchplug/berna.html

It's only 10 Euros. If you're an electronica/Dr Who/Musique concrète enthusiast, g'wan... treat yerself to a slice of how they actually did it.

It is BRILLIANT Derbyshire-tastic fun.  :D

Announcements / Welcome Back!
March 18, 2010, 03:42:55 PM
Dear all,

Sorry about the continued absence of the Frost* forum and website. This is due to the current hosting company dragging their heels in helping us transfer our world to a new hosting provider after their heavy handed tactics in helping us deal with a virus the site became infected with. They have been, in short, a total pain in the **** in helping us sort it out so I decided we should take our business elsewhere. Suffice to say, they've not been very helpful in assisting our departure either.

Rest assured though that we're working on getting everything back up and running asap. Sorry for the continued disruption. More news as we get it.

All the best, Jem

PS. Sorry also to all those who were awaiting a confirmation email about account activation to the forum. Some people have been waiting over a year!!!! This was due to an incorrect email forwarding address set in the system. Most likely by me when drunk, or sober, or on fire. You should all be receiving them very shortly, if not already. I totally appreciate if you've long since moved on from Frost* in that time. Sorry for bothering you if you have.

If it's any consolation, I've also moved on from Frost*. I'm a Greengrocer now... 8-)

March 06, 2010, 02:49:34 PM
I really like Field Music's new album. Took a few listens to get into it as it's pretty unusual, but I'm really enjoying it now.

It's very hard to categorize which is partly why I like it.  :D

Sorta semi pastoral Steely Dan meets 1908's King Crimson meets 1978 Gabriel meets sort of early Police. A curious, but very melodious mungling of styles. It's great for the train journey into London from Brizza.  :D

Gear Corner / Dave Smith
March 05, 2010, 09:55:22 AM
It's now been 4 months since I bought anything and I love Dave Smith and want to buy everything he makes. I had a Prophet 8 I foolishly sold it to buy something else that I probably got rid of a couple of weeks later. Trouble is, a Virus TI2 would probably be more useful, but it's very unsexy compared to the slinky Prophet.

I'd like another Prophet, but then I'm thinking should I buy 2 Tetras? Cheaper than the P8, and you get the great walloping sub oscillator that the P8 doesn't have. Faff to program though.

Or A TI Snow? Or a Poly Evolver? Or a TI2 desktop?

Also, is it me or has Access' stuff gone up in price again?

I want to buy another Voyager plus every single thing that Dave Smith makes. But I can't.

It's deeply frustrating.

There, I've said it. I feel slightly better. Thank you.

Announcements / New Frost Track
February 02, 2010, 07:15:47 PM
What-hey!

In just under 8 weeks, I shall be premiering a new Frost track!

To celebrate 10 years of that most excellent online bakery of all things prog, The Dividing Line, they're having a weekend of celebration on the 4th and 5th of April. I shall be performing the Esoteric version of Snowman and by way of a thank you and to mark the occasion, I've decided to write a new Frost track called...."The Dividing Line"! It's just such a total prog phrase that it would be churlish to not jump in with both feet. :D

I think with a title like that I need to make it fairly significant so expect some length and some girth. Ark ark...

Johnny M's up for playing on it so hopefully I can get the rest of the clan involved too. Think of it as like one of last year's Dr Who specials.  :D

I shall, of course, be commencing a Frost report.

Onwards!

OK Frosties, I'm outta here for a bit. The whole moving house thing is now underway and there's a ton of guff to manage. Not least the weather....Bloody England.

As soon as the internet is restored, I'll be back with a sit rep.

Have a good few days and see you on t'other side.

Just got one. How brilliant it is too. I sampled me hitting a tea cup, slowed it down 2 octaves, put it through the granular mangling effect, resampled it, normalized it, distorted it, time stretched it, resampled it and it's now a great walloping electro synth bass. :D

Sampling old skool stylee is such a laugh.
