The last number these guys played before Magenta's brilliant set last Sunday.
A cover of the theme to "Get Carter".
Brilliant.

Other Bands / May 17/17 2014 "Trinity" - Magenta/Touchstone/Reasoning
« on: August 23, 2013, 09:42:59 AM »
New gig format supported by Prog magazine.

Take three bands, get them to play through a whole album each live. Quite a nice idea, I think. Album-sized doses of bands together on the same stage, might win new fans and spread the love?

Cracking line-up for the first one scheduled for May 17th (Islington) & 18th (Leamington) next year.

Put it in your diaries! :)

Great to see Andy back in harness recording drums for Magenta's new album "The Twenty Seven Club".

It's a corking album (I have been lucky enough to have heard it) and I commend it to the house.

Here's a snippet of Andy at the legendary Rockfield Studios in full flight...

You can pre-order the album with or without the early access to tracks and a host of other content at www.magenta-web.com.

Here's the promo video for the whole album with snippets of all 6 tracks:-

Ask Frost* / Nathan Who?

The latest edition of the Classic Rock Society Magazine features a review of Celeb8.2.

Within this are the following words...

Quote
...hats off in particular to John Mitchell - singing more than he has done in some versions of the band and bassist Nathan East for their skill in holding the music together and some splendid harmonies.

I know the seller, he's selling it because he has two copies and it already has bids on it.
I promised I'd post about it here, so here is the news.
Do with it what you will. :)

While looking at www.korg.com to find out more about the new "Kross" keyboard (which I must confess I thought might have been a typo in SoundOnSound magazine but it is called that)....I thought I'd have a quick look at the "Artists" page and one the three "banners" that is currently showing there is this chap...

Other Bands / Magenta : Metamorphosis Special Edition
« on: May 30, 2013, 10:12:05 PM »
Hi,

Just a quickie (matron) to let people know that Magenta's Metamorphosis album is now available as a special edition CD + DVD including 5 new tracks consisting of new arrangements of four songs and a "deleted scene" (as it were) from the epic title track.

The original "making-of" DVD (which was a separate item) has been out of print for a few years so Rob decided to make a new bundle, adding in the lush new mixes, which are gorgeous.

Just 12 UKP + P&P is a decent price too.

I commend it to the house! :)

Other Bands / Tin Spirits - Roundabout cover - CRS Maltby 18/05/13

Great gig at the weekend - here's Tin Spirits' cover of Yes' Roundabout.
The guy on the right is ex-XTC (XXTC?) and current Big Big Train guitarist Dave Gregory.

Note: The YouTube bots have matched this content (so it's a pretty good cover I guess) so it might not be visible in some territories (Germany?) - sorry about that.

Announcements / "Wondreful" - An explantatioN.
« on: May 13, 2013, 10:17:29 PM »
Apologies if you already know this, but at the recent Twats In Hats house gig, I was asked to explain the alternative spelling of "wonderful"...so I figured it might be worth setting it out here.

In the wondrous RosFest intro music featured on The Philadelphia Experiment recording, Jem spells out the word "W-O-N-D-R-E-F-U-L", playing on the way R and E are swapped in the US spelling of "Theater". Listen carefully and you can hear it.

So, when you see "wondreful" in a Frost*-related post, that is the reason for it...not a spellig mistrake!

Frost* / New forum - Bugs, Requests and Hints'n'tips
« on: April 11, 2013, 01:39:55 PM »
Hi,

Thanks to the efforts of the talented RacingHippo we have this 'ere new forum to play with.
Hopefully this will free us from the constraints of the older software that was running on the previous version.

So, what do you think?
Anything broken that needs fixing?
Anything that could be done to make things better?

Post to this thread and I'll (try to remember to) update this post with a "ToDo" list of issues that we can hopefully get resolved.

Over to you good people...

A few things already mentioned.

Things to do
1. Tapatalk support Resolved
2. External links open in a separate window Resolved
3. A new visual theme

Hints'n'tips
1a. If you would like your Messages ordered so the most recent is shown first (like the old forum did) :-
  • Click "My Messages".
  • Hover over "Preferences" and click "Change Settings".
  • Make sure the checkbox for "Show most recent personal messages at top." is checked. .
  • Click "Change Settings" at the bottom-right.
1b. If you would like to do the same for Forum posts (like the old forum didn't) :-
  • Hover over "Profile" and click "Forum Profile"
  • Hover over "Modify profile" and click "Look and layout"
  • Make sure the checkbox for "Show most recent posts at the top." is checked.
  • Click "Change Profile" at the bottom-right.
2. The default setting for the boards is that after you post, it kicks you back out to the main boards and/or sub-boards. To stop this :-
  • Hover over "Profile" and click "Forum Profile"
  • Hover over "Modify profile" and click "Look and layout"
  • Make sure the checkbox for "Return to topics after posting by default" is checked.
  • Click "Change Profile" at the bottom-right.

Announcements / Applied to join this forum and not got in yet?
« on: March 28, 2013, 07:55:41 AM »
As many will know, we have had a number of stupid new accounts who are determined to waste our time and their own by trying to sell kitchens (or watches) on here.
It got boring the second time it happened so I'm not inclined to approve any accounts that look even slightly like they might be more of the same.

So, "Miap4h"...your application, which arrived overnight, falls into my new "don't get it" category. The name looks too random/generated so I'm not going to approve it.

In the unlikely event that a genuine applicant applies and they come up with a name that triggers the same reaction, well I'm sorry.

Other Bands / YProg Festival - Mostly Cancelled
« on: March 06, 2013, 06:45:27 AM »
Not a lot has been said about this festival on here...but I saw on Twitter last night that the Sat & Sun have been canceled.
If you were going and have not heard this, please check official sources.

It appears that a lot of people will be losing non-refundable hotel costs as a result.
We weren't going (limited funds) but it looked like it was going to be good.

The Friday night is apparently still on.

It's rumoured that poor sales are the reason and further suggested that the appearance of the much maligned HRH festival contributed to this by drawing punters away by being bigger, more shiny, and uncomfortably close on the calendar.

My sympathy to all those who are losing out, both punters and bands.
