I'm a bit ambivalent about this...

While it's always nice to see the guys on a live outing, part of me would rather them spend the time recording some new stuff...

... I'll get my coat

I just wish there were more appetite from synth manufacturers to do something new...

I know they are giving the market what they perceive it needs, and the world is obsessed with old analogue gear...

... but re-releasing a 70s design?

Did all the synth designers just up and die in about 1990? Because there has been little real innovation since then.

If I had a hot dinner for every synth that Jem had sold I would be the size of...

Oh wait...

... bugger!

... But at over a grand for a bag of bits you have to put together yourself, I think Korg are somewhat extracting the urine.

For the same kind of money you could get a bag of bits to make a reasonable modular including an MS20 style filter from the likes of Doepfer.

Go figure

I'm getting that Sub 37, it's soooo amazing!

Yeah, I'm getting quite a case of gearlust for that!

A friend of mine spent some time working at Nemo Studios as Vangelis' in house engineer. Apparently he's an 'interesting' artist to work with ;)

Well...

where to begin.

Let's start with a bit of actual physics (rather than what was in that link)

The speed of light in a vacuum is EXACTLY  299,792,458 metres per second*.

One Nautical mile = 1852 metres

Which means... (drum roll please Mr Blundell) ... The speed of light in a vacuum in nautical miles per second is...

161,874.992 (Not, actually very close to 144,000)

So if there is some kind of universal woo woo link between natural vibrations of sound and the speed of light it would kind of nice if the maths actually worked out wouldn't it?

There are some wonderful bits mathematical elegance out there in the natural world (not least, how often Pi crops up in stuff, not necessarily to do with circles) but this, as it happens is not one of them. :)

However, even slowed down by 1.8% BLM is still a work of genius

*This is exactly, because SI units are derived from repeatedly observable universal constants, and the SI unit of length, the metre = the length of the path traveled by light in vacuum during a time interval of 1/299,792,458 of a second.

Hey! I've got one of those lurking in my MIDI trinkets box (along with a MIDI solutions MIDI Merge, and plans for my ill fated home built MIDI patch changer*) Ah yes, the days when I patched together my Yamaha clavinova, Yamaha TG01 and Casio VZ1 - Oh what a swanky live rig I thought I had! 8)

*Actually now, in the days of Arduino and Raspberry Pi, I suspect my gadget would be relatively easy now to implement - I wanted a thingy that stored the set list by name and at the touch of a button/footpedal burst out a series of patch and bank change messages to multiple keyboards.  It's just that now, my Fantom G can do just that

I love the V Stand.  I use it with my Fantom G7. It looks cool and is really sturdy AND it folds down small enough to pop into the boot of the car :)

But I don't think it's made any more and nobody seems to have the 2nd tier on sale anywhere :(

I have rather longed after a modular for ages.

My head says, Eurorack, 'cause it will fit in the new studio without really taking over a wall

But my heart says Synthesizers.com Moog-size.

Of course Mrs One will have to sign it off, and moving house is I suspect going to suck up any potential modular synth budget for the foreseeable. :(

Frost* / Re: Celebr8.2

Thoughts with Jem, take care of that hand!

As a fellow keyboard player I really sympathize. Nightmare situation.

It turned out Andy was staying in the Kingston travellodge for last year's Celebr8 and Mrs One and I bumped into him at breakfast and later in the lift. Thoroughly nice bloke, we talked about his software based keyboard rig, and the merits of various Hammond VSTis (He sold me on the idea of the VB3 after I heard the Tangent set!)

So good luck to Andy taking on the Frost* canon and of course to Jem a huge get well soon group hug!

I've booked our hotel today...  Pushed the boat out and we're staying at the Blookmsbury about 10 minutes walk away.  8-)

Michael Dunsford RIP

Very unexpected, just back from the first leg of the Renaissance reunion tour.  I was really hoping to catch them if they did any UK dates. Renaissance were always one of my fave bands. Song for All Seasons still gives me goosebumps.

Thank you muchly. Currently chilling at the rather posh 5 star Bath Spa hotel as a surprise treat from Mrs One. Spent the afternoon trying out different types of steam, heat, bubble, drench, and swim permutations in the spa, just about to get ready for gourmet meal in the restaurant.
