Announcements / Prog Top 50 Keyboard Players
« on: September 29, 2018, 09:43:10 AM »
Interesting readers' poll on the greatest keyboard players ever in the latest Prog magazine. Jem was number 29, which was quite respectable given the opposition and that this was a survey of more than just the Frosties (we'd obviously have him far higher!).

One or two anomalies as you always get in such surveys. John Beck (It Bites & Kino) only at 47 and Geddy Lee at 19! Now, Geddy is my favourite bass player but putting him 10 places ahead of Jem as a keyboard player - really?! Even I can play Subdivisions but I can't play Milliontown...

Other Bands / Re: Camel at the Bridgewater, Manchester

I was at the Newcastle gig last night. Gig of the year for me - absolutely brilliant. I'm a big Camel fan anyway but the addition of Pete into the band has taken them to another level. His keyboard playing was spot on, nailing all the 70s sounds (I'd love to know how he had all the patches and splits set up), his lead vocals gave me goosebumps (best of the 3 lead vocalists) but his sax playing was a revelation. He was even playing sax and keyboards simultaneously during Lady Fantasy! He similarly got huge applause for his solo on Rajaz.
The rest of the band were also on form. You had to remind yourself Andy Latimer is now 69 and had to relearn how to play the guitar after many years of serious illness. Great to finally get to see him and hear his unique tone live.  8)

A studio version of TFYS already exists, but who knows? He's been known to rework tracks here and there.

Then it needs a proper release.

That would assume we have a QMS, which we don't! UnI
See, I made a comment, but in a quote, in error. Non conformance?
You rebel!  8)

I see the ESA is looking for names for their Mars rover.
As SpacyMcSpaceface probably isn't going to get far, how about Frosty?!  ;D ;)

Some new tracks are now in the bag
After a bit of a lag

No, you didn't imagine it. However, I suspect life, the day job, the new Cube, mixing the Dingwall gig and starting writing Frost* 4 has probably got in the way of its release. Fingers crossed that it will see the light of day sometime.  8)
