Any Other Business / Garden Rain video
March 27, 2010, 07:06:59 PM
Had Thurdsday and Friday off work  this week and it pissed down so I decided to make a quick video, it's not like I film and edit enough in the day job

Shot it on my canon 7D which as well as being a still camera shoots HD video, shot at 1280x720 50fps then dropped the frame rate to 25fps in post to get a kind of slow mo look to it.

You can view the video on Youtube or Facebook.

At the moment the facebook one seems to play better for me not sure if this is the same for everyone

Live music venue appeals for bands for fundraising gigs.

Alan Jones, former member of the legendary Welsh band, Amen Corner, and founder of The Globe in Albany Rd, Cardiff, is appealing for bands and artists to take part in a special "Save The Globe" benefit gig to raise funds to help keep one of Cardiff's last music venues open.

The venue, which has featured a list of international artists including La Roux, Jamie T,Johnny Winter, Arlo Guthrie, and Wishbone Ash, has become one of the premier live music venues in South Wales since its launch just over a year ago, but has recently come under the spotlight itself as a result of noise complaints from two nearby residents which has resulted in Cardiff Council revoking the 350-capacity music venue's licence.

Club founder Alan Jones said, "We invested a considerable amount of money in creating a truly unique music venue for Cardiff, and made efforts to incorporate what we thought would be adequate soundproofing measures. Unfortunately, the few complaints recently received by Cardiff Council could see the venue shut down for good, which would be a blow for live music in Cardiff and of course for the venue's staff who would be out of a job if we have to close."
Alan has appealed the Council's decision and the forecasted hearing is scheduled for the end of February. In the meantime, he is hoping to raise the estimated £25,000 required to undertake additional soundproofing to the roof by organising a special fundraising gig at an appropriate venue in Cardiff, and is appealing to bands and live music enthusiasts in South Wales for support of the event.

"The Globe itself simply doesn't have the funds to undertake the soundproofing work, so I am appealing to any bands and artists that would be willing to play at the fundraising concert to contact us to lend support. Wales has produced so many successful bands down the years. If Cardiff loses any more live venues, who knows what future Welsh supergroups will go undiscovered."
Anyone interested in taking part in the fundraising campaign should email Alan Jones on: mailto:info@theglobecardiff.com">info@theglobecardiff.com
We are looking for dedicated acts/bands/performers to get involved in the drive which will be happening January 25th to 27th! If you think you could help, we would like to hear from you!

Other Bands / It Bites Xmas Special
October 08, 2009, 03:00:56 PM
Quote from: "Vitamin P"

May I be the first to wish you all a very Happy Christmas!

And with felicitations of the season in mind, I'm delighted to announce the It Bites Christmas Special!

This is going to be a very special festive evening indeed and will be the first show the current line-up have ever performed in their "adopted" hometown of Reading...

And Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without a few friends around, so we're chuffed to bits that Welsh superstars, Magenta have agreed to travel up the M4 to join us.

And we hope you can too...

Tickets will be on sale in the next few days...

I'll keep y'all posted.

Other Bands / A new era for The Reasoning
July 07, 2009, 03:01:44 PM
From the band:

 Hi all once again!

This issue of the Dark Angel Times comes to you directly from Comet Music and Cathedral Management: and we have some very important news for you this time around.

After an incredible three years, many life-changing experiences both on and off-stage and two amazingly successful albums (which have sold in excess of 20,000 copies) this month welcomes the closing of one significant chapter in the life of The Reasoning...and the dawning of a brand new era.

The Reasoning that you have come to know thus far has reached a junction in its continuing musical journey, and we bid farewell to Gareth Jones and Vinden Wylde. Both Gareth and Vinden have been instrumental to the development of the band over the past three years (on keyboards and vocals, and drums respectively) and we have enjoyed many good times together. We have been proud to work with two such talented musicians and we wish them every success for the future, and sincerely thank them for the part they have played in The Reasoning's success.

This incarnation of The Reasoning leaves you with an important legacy. Many of you will already be aware that the band recorded a single last month – this is a cover version of Duran Duran's classic song, The Chauffeur. A version of this was performed as a part of the band's live set in April, but it has now been given a complete Reasoning makeover, and will be available as a digital download on 10 August from all major digital distributors.

Initial reaction, from unsuspecting amateurs to hardened pros, has been excellent. Please do spread the word to your friends and family - Sing Blue Silver!

The plan for 2009 had been to regroup, rethink and begin to write our third album in earnest – and this has indeed been the case. As a further consequence, and upon reflection, we now understand that in order that The Reasoning continues to thrive, realises its full potential and meets the unique challenges of making music in the 21st century, the business organisation behind the band must implement some major changes. These changes will be disclosed in due course, but the first will be that Cathedral Management will now step up their involvement on the management side and take over all administrative and business matters.

FISH convention

As we begin this next stage of our development, it has been agreed that The Reasoning's forthcoming appearance at this years' FISH convention in Leamington Spa on August 9th be an acoustic performance, and we will be accompanied by additional musicians who will help bring an exciting and fresh interpretation to the acoustic arrangements of our songs, and this is something we're really looking forward to. This has, of course, been discussed with Fish himself in full, and an official announcement to this effect will also be made from Fish and his team through the appropriate channels.

New releases

There are some exciting (and imminent) releases in the pipeline. First of all, in the wake of a fantastic success at this years' Marillion convention in Holland, we will be releasing a recording of that performance in continuation of the Reasoning "Bootleg" series.  Expect to add this to your CD collections before the end of the year.

Magazine Reviews

There are two excellent reviews of the band's gig at The Peel in April which are certainly deserving of your attention – a lead live review (spread over two pages) in the second issue of Classic Rock Presents PROG and another excellent review in the July edition of Record Collector magazine.

The Reasoning Online Family

The Reasoning Facebook fan site goes from strength to strength, the band's MySpace site continues to attract new friends (and has had almost 190,000 views during its three year development), and The Official Forum has just celebrated its second anniversary. Enormous thanks are due to all who have shared the journey so far. Long may it continue!

Any Other Business / The Point, Cariff to close
February 27, 2009, 05:30:40 PM
You may remember back when Frost* played the point supporting Spock's Beard that Jem mentioned in the Frost* tour report that The Point was being threatened with closure following noise complaints from neighbours.

The Point did it's best and spend money on improving sound proofing in the venue but unfortunately in the current economic climate the costs incurred in undertaking this work coupled with loss of income while the work was carried out have left them in the sad position of having to close :(

I'm really gutted as I've photographed quite a few gigs at the great venue and it'll be terrible if it has to close for good.

Below is the announcement from the points website:

QuoteTo all customers, promoters, fans, bands and supporters of The Point Cardiff Bay

It is with deep regret that we announce the closure of the venue today. On 27th February 2009 the Director of the Point Cardiff Bay Limited signed the appropriate notices to call a meeting of creditors pursuant to S98 Insolvency Act 1986.

A number of factors have contributed to this situation. Many of you will be aware that during 2008 we began receiving noise complaints from one or two neighbours that had moved into the new apartments that have been built next to the venue. After some difficult negotiations with the Cardiff City Council we undertook a huge amount of work to soundproof the venue in an attempt to secure its future. While that has largely been successful, the burden of the debt that we took on, together with greater restrictions in our banking facilities and more difficult trading conditions in the last few months, as well as the loss of revenue whilst the refurbishment works were undertaken, has meant we are unable to meet our current liabilities and have been left with no option but to seek voluntary liquidation.

Many people have put their heart and soul in turning the Point into the magical venue that it is and we have received huge and loyal support over the years from fans and bands alike. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for that support. It is a very sad day for us and for the live music scene in Cardiff.

If you have bought tickets for shows in advance, we must advise you to seek compensation from your credit card company. If you are a supplier to the Point, there will be further news about a creditors meeting in due course.
