I guess "missing" just means "unaccounted for".

I suppose one has to also allow for the wankers who have fraudulently claimed to have missing friends/relatives in order to gain attention on social media. I saw one of them on Twitter before it was clear it was untrue and the stream of media people trying to get access for interview was slightly unnerving too. I could imagine the news editors thinking "we don't have enough emotion, find me a sobbing relative immediately".

Watching the rolling news channels trying to pad out their coverage to justify 100% focus was a bad too...plus the scrum that developed when they got wind of the Prime Minister being nearby. I say this with no political colouring, it would apply to the situation whoever was in power.

Maybe it's cynical of me to see such things negatively, but a visit by the PM on top of everything else doesn't seem to be best way of serving the victims and the people trying to help hands-on. To me, it is just the PM being seen to be doing what they think (or have been told) they ought to be doing and not actually *helping*. "Hey, PM, grab a mop if you really want to help". If the PM didn't go, there are those who would point at it as being wrong, so perhaps it is a no-win situation.

One reporter claimed the visit was to show solidarity with the medical personnel...I can think of more worthwhile ways a prime minister could demonstrate solidarity with our NHS but I'm going to stop now because the murky waters of political comment are not where I want to be going.

Ditto.

What I'm struggling with most right now (aside from the obvious) is the people who are missing (14 as I type this). WHY AND HOW ARE PEOPLE MISSING?? I can't wrap my head around it. If they were safe, they would have surfaced by now, so, you have to assume they are injured. Surely, the venue and surrounding area will have been thoroughly searched at this point, and all who were transported to hospitals would at least have some sort of description if they had no identification. If hospitals had unidentified victims, they would say so, wouldn't they? Not knowing is infuriating. I can't imagine the hell these families are going through right now.
