Well, first of all, I haven't posted here much though I've been a member for a few months now.  So sorry, and more importantly, hello everybody!  :)

Secondly, I'm an American student, recent university graduate with a BAA in Broadcast and Cinematic Arts, with a concentration in audio production (music engineering, SFX, ADR, radio spot production, etc.).  For my senior seminar we had to interview a professional with a similar profession that we hope to have someday, and Jem, being the generous fellow that he is, was just nice enough to give me a nice, beefy interview.  :D

Anyhow, the audio unit head here has become a bit of a fan of mine and offered me a position as a graduate assistant, which I initially declined because I had no intention of going to grad school.  However, after weighing everything out I found out the position held a fair amount of benefits, but the words from the interview especially rang true to me as I remembered them.

"Say yes to everything".  In the context of finding work, this phrase did me a lot of good.  It was far from the only enlightening thing about the interview, but I think it's something everyone should keep in mind.  So I changed my mind and said "yes" to the GA position.  :)

So now instead of being an out-of-work daydreamer, I'm going for a Master's Degree in Electronic Media Production, exempt of tuition with moderate pay as well!  I will be teaching audio production and be the head of the student record label, which is very exciting.

So things seem to be going my way.  So much that I've set a new goal for myself, to get an internship at Skywalker Sound next summer.  Fingers crossed.

Sorry this has been so lengthy, I just had a lot to say.  And I figured it would be better to share the information that helped me with everyone here rather than spam poor Jem's email.

Remember that every opportunity can only bring out more experience and chances for improvement.  Best wishes, everyone.

Wow! It's great to hear about people getting on towards their dreams. Nice to hear that Mr G has played a part too.
Best of luck with it all. Please let us all know how it goes. :)

That's excellent.  Very exciting for you, no doubt.  Keep in mind, Godfrey also emits phrases that will most definitely NOT help you find work.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone :)

I'll be sure to post the best of news on the internship at Skywalker Sound if that should be the case.  I can't imagine my boss being George Lucas, a man who has had such an impact on my life (I'm a huge Star Wars nerd), and an impact on the world in general as far as how movies are made, and that Star Wars is the biggest thing ever to happen to pop culture.  :o

But I digress.

I'm currently working on improving my craft by reading many trade books and things like that.

Perhaps I will post the interview in a bit, if Jem has no problems with it.

Thanks again, everyone  :D
