it really depends on what you want to record.

Instruments / vocals / or a mixed use ?

Its a mix because there is a chorus as well, but it should be predominantly used for recording about 50 piece wind orchestra, I hope that helps.

You'll need phantom power, but a couple of large diaphragm condensors with wide dynamic range, set up to record in stereo Left and Right would do the job.

I guess you must have a budget of some sort.

If it's a big budget buy a pair of Neumann U87's or similar.

The more you pay, the better the mic ... as good alternatives look at AKG or RODE to suit your budget.

This unusually sensible answer was brought to you by courtesy of a very boring Friday morning at work... hope it helps in some way, if not just listen to EIMA, kick back and enjoy  :D

Spooky - I am listening to "The Meeting Place" by XTC from Skylarking, and that dancing cyberman bops in time perfectly.

I haven't shopped in a shop for minidiscs for ages after I got a load from a car boot sale, but there's loads of options online.

Some sensible suggestions in there. I'm no fan of LDCs myself in this application, except for some spot/solo stuff. Doesn't mean you can't/shouldn't yourself, however. Experiment, and hire/borrow as necessary.
