The first two are definitely my top albums of 2009, the rest are in no order...

Joe Bonamassa - The Ballad Of John Henry
Gazpacho - Tick Tock
Muse - The Resistance
Porcupine Tree - The Incident
Transatlantic - The Whirlwind

The Answer, Doves, Dream Theater, IQ, Tinyfish and Touchstone have also put out great records. There are loads that were released that I haven't heard yet, like Imogen Heap and Nosound. The Beatles and King Crimson remasters are also sounding excellent and this was the year I discovered Dire Straits, No-Man and Tinyfish who have become very important bands to me.

All in all, a good year for music! Looking forward to the next one!

I'd like to point out that 2010 probably won't be as good studio albums-wise, but will definitely be one of the most exciting regarding live shows ! I already booked a few gigs (Opeth Evolution XX, Lamb of God, Katatonia and Freak Kitchen in Paris, and of course the Sonisphere Festival in Zurich) that will certainly leave me comatose like a junkie squirrel. Can't wait !  :twisted:

Yeah, much as I have to stick with that I just discovered 'Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix' by Phoenix and its another mega 'WOW' from me lol. Must learn not to make lists anymore!  :mrgreen:

Bigelf's Hex was one of my favourites this year although it's a few years old. Strangely I was very underwhelmed by their newest, Cheat The Gallows, not a patch on Hex.

Ah, well, I've not heard everything by any means. But in prog-like circles, my top 5 would be:

1) Panic Room - Satellite
2) Big Big Train - The Underfall Yard
3) Darwin's Radio - Template for a Generation
4) Transatlantic - The Whirlwind
5) erm, not much else that I'd put on a pedestal. I liked Porcupine Tree's 'The Incident', Dream Theater's 'Black Clouds and Silver Linings' and IQ's 'Frequency' well enough, but they didn't grab me, choke me, and leave me for dead. Maybe a few more listens will change that.
