I feel fortunate to be involved in a charitable project, a tribute CD to the late Will Owsley. You may not be familiar with his name, so let me give you a little background. Will Owsley was a singer/songwriter who was Amy Grant's guitarist for 16 years and recorded with The Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato and Miley Cyrus (that's him playing mandolin and guitar on "7 Things"). He's also performed with Shania Twain, Kenny Loggins and many others, but it's his original material that made me a fan.

Despite what those names may suggest, Owsley was a brilliant power pop rock artist. In the early 90s, he formed The Semantics with Ben Folds (on drums) and Millard Powers. Ben left to form Ben Folds 5 and was replaced by Zak Starkey (Ringo, Jr.). Their album was only released in Japan. Owsley released his eponymous solo debut in 1999, which was nominated for a Grammy for Engineering. He released a second album, "The Hard Way," in 2004 and later released digital-only singles. He had also contributed covers to tribute albums for The Cars (good album, Tom Brislin also contributed to it) and Paul McCartney (excellent version of "Band On The Run").

Sadly, he suffered from depression and took his life last month. While this is a loss to the music world, it's a far bigger loss to his family. He has two sons, age 12 and 8, the younger of which is autistic. This prompted an immediate desire to help the family, and a team quickly assembled. The tribute CD idea was proposed and the family gave its blessing. All proceeds from the project will go to his family.

The project is in the very early planning stages, but professional artists will be contributing to this album and we are going to need a professional looking web page initially to help attract more professional participation, and later to promote the CD. If you, or someone you know, are experienced in web design and would be willing to volunteer his or her talent for this cause, please send me a private message and I'll pass your info on to the project coordinator.

Thanks very much.
