Hopefully most people have now received their copies by now (sorry if you haven't but hopefully it won't be too much longer).

So, what do you think? Ashleaze wants to know....so let's tell her!  :)

Live CDs
Blimmin' marvellous! One of the best live recordings I've heard for a long, long time. The last time I was so struck by a  "step improvement" in quality of a live recording was Rush's "Exit Stage Left". It's great to have a live version of the whole of the Milliontown CD.
Favourite tracks are :-
    1) Milliontown itself
As Wilf said in the Tinyfish forum, this is the definitive live version.
I'd love to know who played "the oboe bit" having previously seen it done by :-
    John Mitchell@ Rotherham(no clip sadly)
    Andy Edwards@Summer's End and
both John and Andy together @The Peel
...I'm guessing it might have been John and NDV?
Anyway, here is a rare clip of Milliontown from the TPE gig itself.

    2) Snowman (Tenori-On version)
    Stunning.

    3) The Other Me
    Rawk! m/[/list]
    The Dividing Line
Great to get a good quality version at last and also interesting to hear how it has subtly changed from the broadcast version. Really looking forward to hearing/seeing how this translates to the live setting.  :)

    DVD
Loverly Frost* Report, as has been said, some of it has been seen before but that matters not. Just wish there was more of the gig itself.
The Surround Mix of TDL is brilliant - I think Rob Reed did a fantastic job with it. I think it is safe to confess I was lucky enough to be asked to give it a check-over ahead of release and it blew me away over the first several listens and still does. I really hope more Frost* stuff gets this treatment.

    Packaging
Nice to have a proper double crystal case. The Digipak styling of other multi-disk things is ok but I prefer to have something that'll stand-up on its own on the shelf.
Love the artwork (that Vitamin P again! :) ) and it's great to have the proper words for The Dividing Line in there.

So, that's my blather out of the way....now let's have yours... :D

    Dear Sarah,

I can't stop listening to it.

Wilf (not Pedder's) said on the TinyFish forum that the version of Miliontown is definitive.

I think he's right; but I'd go further; IMHO the entire album is definitive Frost* (at least so far). It deserves to be hooge.

And best of all, it's done without an ounce of up-arse bolloxness. Just great music, fantastically written, awesomely played and consummately produced. Album of the year, no question. And I'll march (singing the Intro to myself) on foot to Rotherham next January to see it awarded as such.   :o

I was so moved, I also had to write a short blog about it. //http://gable-end.blogspot.com/2010/06/quickie.html

Agree with all that's been said. I do however, have a very minor gripe:

I guess it comes down to CD pressing problems again, but the CD seems to have CD-player-compatible named tracks on it (which is good) so when I stick it in my car stereo it tells me which song I'm listening to. Unfortunately, they seem to be named "track 1", "track 2" etc.

Well, lets start with the music - I'll go through the tracks we didn't already have.

The Forget You Song - I luuurve this version, lovely to hear the band so tight after so little rehearsal time!

Falling Down - The new intro works like a charm! Still of one of my favourites from EIMA, and this version is -as others have said - the definitive live version! The instrumental section sounds HUGE!!

Experiments In Mass Appeal - Quite possibly my favourite from the whole album, its AMAZING! Johnny Mitchell's solo is possibly even better than the live version (it proverbially melts the proverbial face), and what is that riff at the end! Wondreful.

Snowman - What more can be said? 10/10. The new bit at the end is B-E-A-Utiful.

Milliontown - Well, you can't argue with that, can you?! This version for some reason clicked with me much more so than the album version, I think I just got it!

The Other Me - The consummate gig closer. I can only hope that the crowd was singing along as much as I'd like to think they were! Nice to hear Uncle Jowitt at the start too  :P

DVD - I LOVE FROST* REPORTS! I don't have a surround system, but I'm sure TDL is stonking too.

The packaging, as some have already said, is perfect, lovely to see a return to something more sturdy than digipaks.

I can't see me getting tired of listening to this any time soon. As one confident American said, 'I think we just got Frosted!'

It's utter rubbish, just like the rest of the distinctly below average output from the lesser Godfrey.

    Hi A Sleaze

I think that it's one of the best live recordings that I have heard.  Jem's comments through the concert are very interesting/ amusing.  After a mere three play-throughs, my favorites are Milliontwon and The Other Me (yep - a foot stomping performance that one).

I'm also very much enjoying listening to the 5.1 version of TDL.  I think that listening to Prog is so much better in 5.1 - there is just so much happening that it gives the music more space.  Hopefully Jem will consider putting out other material in 5.1 (pretty please).

    LOL
Yes, even the emoticons couldn't stick to it.  ;)
So long as Jem is aware that you do really mean it I think we are in the clear....

In addition to my Milliontown comment, here's what I said in The Other Place:

QuoteWhat's not to like? It's nicely recorded, there's enough of the in-between chat to create a bit of atmosphere, and the performances are great.

Live albums are funny things - I think that Jem's done it the best way, which is to document a particular event, rather than create something which is an 'album in itself'. You wouldn't want to have just these recordings of Milliontown, Black Light Machine, Dear Dead Days etc., but you get a nice re-working of the songs in a different and very specific context.

    God, don't I go on?

well, I ain't got mine yet, as I'm across the pond, but I was there, and if I remember correctly, it was Nick that played the oboe.  gonzo will correct me, if'n I'm wrong!  8-)

It'll definately be worth the wait, it's up there with Yessongs, Exit Stage Left, and Live Scenes From New York. Brilliant stuff!

Was it a real oboe, then? Not a clever keyboard sound?

    I love that bit

Keys. Watch the clips in the first post and imagine Nick instead of the others. ;)
