Brom

Miss Brom, now 14 (and of course going on 21   ) asked if we could download the trial version of "Sibelius" the composing software, which as most of you probably know, is a manuscript based sequencer. I must admit to being more than a bit impressed (proud Dad etc.) at the results of her very first 3 or so hours. What amazed me was this was all done with a mouse, no midi keyboard, just clicking on the staves.

See what you think

very good, indeed!

here's a list of some other freeware programs you might look into:

Roger's school page

This one - MuseScore looks especially good!

very nice. well done. I especially liked the strings. full and lush. nice job.

Pedro

That's a very interesting result indeed.
Like a free-form abstract painting with various "colours and textures" - unconstrained by rigid forms/structures and yet showing creative restraint. (ooh, hark at me! ). Erm, I think it's good. ;)

...and well done to you for making this available to her - I wish things like that were available when I was that age!

This is very, very impressive. I can't stand Sibelius (too tricky for me!), so the fact that she did that after just three hours I find really quite remarkable. Nice!

Some very useful sites there Rog!

Have you ever heard of //http://www.musictheory.net/?
It's a brilliant site for learning to read sheet music and has lessons and quizes for people to try. You can also download it for use offline if needed.
Broadband! A whole 2.5MB of it!

rogerg

oh, thanks for that, gav!  excellent!  I will add it to my page!

gav

No problem Rog! :D

It's what my old music teacher recommended for learning to read scores.

Ah to be young enough to have an old music teacher that even knows what the internet is.

I meant it in the sense that she used to be my music teacher, not that she was old in an age sense
I only left school this year!

Thanks for all the great feedback guys. Miss B was more than pleased to see what you all had written  :D

Sibelius is now bought and registered!  :D however, I was soon receiving complaints that the Student version only allows 12 instruments at a time. Now I'm being badgered for the full ~£300 version    Ah well!!

Rog & Gav, thanks muchly for the links, we will be following them up.
