Quote from: "Trapezium Artist"but for the life of me I couldn't work out what Mitchell's response to Blunder's "Dry Bar!" was ... anyone help?

For me it was the other way around.. I couldn't understand Blunder's reply but to me Mitchell seems to shout "Moog" multiple times.

yeah, I heard Moog, too.

I heard Moon!

Is the phrase "for cattle or love play" related.
Is it "dry bar" or "drei bar" (as in the German for three)?
I have no idea! :)

Yup....always one in the bunch who doesn't get it........these guys are starting to lose me.  Is this a progressive rock band or a comedy act??  Even TDL to my ears sounds like they are taking music less and less serious.  :(

Not sure I'd go quite that far, Mickdoo; along with the absolutely exceptional and genre-changing music, the humour has been a vital component of what makes Frost* tick from Day One (indeed, go back and look at Jem's very first blog post in, err, 2006?). The infamous Peel Christmas gig was a superb mixture of music and comedy which I will remember forever.

IMHO, TDL is absolutely full-on prog rock, no punches pulled. While I'd be more likely to agree with you with regards the first half of the Copland Song With No Name, the second half is far, far more like it.

E.S.

I prefer the Frost* reports to stay funny. Prog is serious enough as it is.

Mooncat

Indeed, I'd agree that there IS a place for humour in Prog - too many bands (of lots of genres) take their music seriously and deliver it as such. Lets not forget, music is after all entertainment, so if Jem and the boys wish to let off a bit of steam between songs then good on 'em.
I can't see that any of the songs have particularly comic elements, if anything with the arrangements I'd say they were anything but, however when the band is performing them live, I want them to be enjoying it, not plodding through a series of songs, with little or no regard for what is going on around them.

Too many folks are too serious .. what this world needs is more mad cap tomfoolery .. be it musical or not. The CD's are serious music .. after musically entertaining me, Jem can be as mad as he likes .. me love it. :D
... it was like watching a peach jelly f##k a steel drum ..

I'm staggered that you think I'm taking the piss with The Dividing Line. Absolutely staggered.

El_Mayonnaise

I think a possible problem here is the varying changes in style and genre of Frost*. Jem is well within his right to shift things about but going from EIMA to TDL, anyone can see there is a bit of a shift in mood/timbre (I know there was the Forget you song but bare with me)

I personally did not enjoy TDL when it first got released, only once TPE came out did I get into it and there are many fantastic things to find in there.

People's opinions. Not always what you want to hear.

Ben Y-S

Well, I for one love the Dividing Line, and agree that I can't even comprehend it being anything that takes the piss. But people will have opinions, I personally think that Frost* do a very good job of keeping the music serious and the videos funny, and they excel in both areas. And Frost* Reports must stay as hilarious as they are otherwise I will be disappointed to no end, as I watch them all the time and they're about the best band-related documentary (or rockumentary, whatever floats your boat) things about. So definitely don't change that. =P

I thought he was shouting "Trifle" not "Dry Bar"...  :?

I would struggle to find a single thing I didn't love about Frost*. The music? Brilliant. All of it. Not a turd in the bowl. I love that EIMA is so different from Milliontown and TDL heads down yet another path. Bands that make the same album over and over aren't exactly progressive, now are they? The reports? Brilliant. Informative and hilarious. The rest of the world should take notes. The guys? All tremendously talented. Jem? Ridiculously good at everything he does and an incredibly generous man when it comes to his fans.

Easily my favourite band of the past 5 years, but then, I like accessible, rock-oriented prog more than old school prog (says the host of a show called Experiments in Mass Appeal).
...and I can feel the world is turning...turn around

I totally agree with you, Gonzo. The balance of serious music and humour is perfect, in my opinion.
Also, I can see why some people may not take TDL seriously, but I think that the odd querky section in a song really helps to maintain interest and keep the music moving forward. I can think of too many bands who's music I've stopped buying because it's just got too predictable. Frost* is not one of them.
Broadband! A whole 2.5MB of it!

I liked seeing how Blundell totally fits with the band.  He is as silly as the others.  I was also amused by how Pete appeared bemused by it all
