I think I may have overexplained that in the thread title... I've nothing left to say hahaaa!

But yeah, I have just over 100 quid of christmas monies and I need a good vocal mic, any suggestions?

I've been looking at a couple but all the good ones seem to be £200 ish, like the rode NT1 and AKG C2000, so should I save up some more and wait or just get a cheaper one?

Cheers guys :D

I can't really advise on which is better than another...but the Rode NT1-A kit (with shock-mount, and popshield) should only cost about £150 tops, shouldn't it?

I'm not sure of the UK availability, but MXL makes some very reasonable, very good mics.  I got mine at www.PSSL.com

The SE ELectronics SE2000 http://www.dv247.com/microphones/se-ele ... eld--70051 is probably a pretty good buy (77 quid in DIgital VIllage)

The Rode NT1-A http://www.dv247.com/microphones/rode-n ... one--10229 is a stunning mic for the price but a bit above your budget at £132.

Bear in mind you will need something to bolt it to and a cable, assuming you haven't already got those and a cheapo mic stand will be around £20 and a half decent mic cable will be over a tenner*

*RIght now on my desk I have a 5m cable with cheapo no-name XLRs waiting for me to get the soldering iron out to repair it, whereas the good ones in my cable box with Neutrik XLRs that cost me about 20 quid per cable never give a moment's trouble.

I second that. I have the MXL 909 //http://www.mxlmics.com/products/900_series/909/909.html and got it for about 100$ US + shipping.

Just ordered my lovely shiny new Rode NT1 with a popshield and ting, innit.
Thanks very much, guys!

You're gonna love it!

A mate of mine has one, and he rates them very highly.  And he should know, having, in a previous life  engineered in/produced in/run some of the worlds finest studios.  In fact he was so impressed, he was instrumental in setting up the first Rode distribution deal in the UK

Now that does look good. I might have to get one in the new year...
