BBC4 on Friday Night is almost every time interesting. I even liked the Mark Knopfler night last Friday. Looking forward to seeing the Peter Green & Fleetwood Mac thing although I have a sneaking suspicion that it was broadcast before.

I agree...BBC 4 has to be my fave channel. Lots of good music (as mentioned above) and some really cracking documentary stuff...keeps the old brain cells working...!

Agreed, BBC4 does put out some good stuff, including some gigs I attended as a student and those days no one had a video recorder, so they were just a memory till now! Another good feature is the ability to watch on iplayer for quite some time afterwards.

Last Friday I discovered that BBC4 (at that time) gave a blank screen and an error message from my provider, Virgin. It was only when I turned my DVD recorder off that it came to life! Crafty eh!

Have you retuned recently, Brom? The impending digital switchover might be doing funny things to the channels. I believe I have to retune in February and again in March.

Yes and no!!    this was with regard to my Virgin cable system which is self tuning - if that makes sense. I even tried rebooting the box but to no avail, if the dvd recorder was on, then both BBC3 and 4 were unobtainable - however, I did see a quick flicket of the iplayer logo on the screen before it went blank and then the unobtainable message popped up from Virgin. I suspect when the BBC are playing repeats they send out a signal mixed in with the video which prevents recording. however, It seems a bit naughty that you can't even have your DVD player on, i.e. not recording!

Agreed, set top boxes need retuning. The problem I have at my location is that BBC4 has a really poor signal, so, for example, the TV in our bedroom which has a Freeview box often gives sporadic output on BBC4* - a bloomin pain if you want to watch Guitar heroes at the Beeb from under the duvet!.................. Yes it can be that scary!!

*Ironically The Shopping channels etc come in at full strength.
