Howdy Chaps and Ladychaps,
I'm wresting with the idea of purchasing the rather splendid Alchemy. However as a music hobbyist its rather an expensive thing to do. I wondered if anyone here has it and whether they find they still use it a great deal or not?

What I'm worried about is buying it and then only using it about 5 times.

I have Lennardigital Sylenth and use it all the time - I was hoping alchemy would give me something from the other side of the spectrum ie more pads and big wide open sounds.

It also looks fun for sound design which is something i'd like to start doing a bit more.

Any thoughts?

frost you very much!

Alchemy is effin' awesome! Mind you, there are a couple more softsynths that get my love:

u-he Zebra 2
Waldorf PPG Wave V.3
Waldorf Largo
Schwa OLGA
VAZ Modular
GForce Minimonsta
Free TAL stuff
Free Elektrostudio stuff
etc. etc. :)

JakeWorrell

Awesome, I'll have to check some of those out too.

Damn it looks like I'm going to have to at this rate. Sounds like it's just too good to ignore.

That and I've started to use it already in a electronic rock crossover cover of 'street spirit' in demo mode. Thats how they get you!

I too love this synth/sampler/whateveritis. It's really unique.

El_Mayonnaise

I used to play Alchemy on my grandad's old pc. Never really got how fire and water make alcohol but not steam though.

I assume we are all talking about the same program.

Possibly not.

Alchemy? The classic MS-DOS game? :D

I knew it wasn't the same thing

LOL
I downloaded a 3-week trial of it and barely scratched the surface of the thing. It's obviously very powerful but at the same time very complex.

Agreed - I am yet to actually sit and spend some decent time really playing with sounds but I intend to do so at some point. I am generally a preset tweaker to be honest.

It does make some pretty awesome sounds. Even the random button makes good sounds.

This is a goldmine of sounds. Even just moving the X-Y controllers can generate a huge library of unique sounds. I haven't even landed on the tip of the iceberg.  :D

If you're worried about scratching the surface it's on CD
