Well, it's not like it's a long-term thing... ;)

That's been an interesting watch... I guess my preferences were pretty much in line with theirs from the bits we saw anyway... though picking between the two MMs must have been really difficult, but congrats to Mike :)

Still the previous Mike (ah, I see what they did there! :D) had a certain intensity too him, so maybe they were just used to that...

Ooh, Pedro; you old cynic ...

I do agree that MP had a certain intensity; the chosen MM, however, seems to have a certain insanity ...

I must admit that i'd never knowingly come across the word 'preternaturally' before, I like it!

couldn't be more accurate either!

I liked mike, though I know what you mean about his personality. I've been a bit off DT the past year or so but I enjoyed their little 'americas next top model'athon.

At your service, mi'lud  ;)

Pajter

Mangini is an obvious safe choice. I was hoping for Minnemann. I feel as though he would put more progress in progressive. And also, there's something about Mangini that strikes me the wrong way. Emotionally creepy is how I'd describe it. :p

Interesting choice of words there, Pajter, which actually pretty well summarise what I was thinking.

Mordwin

Yeah, Minnemann would definitely have been the more interesting choice...

i hope Dream Theater have made the right choice with Mike Mangini,im sure he has a lot to offer the band as their new drummer. My only worry is that DT have chosen to continue writing and producing the next album in the metal vein, forgetting their prog side(which,i might add is DT at their best)and gone for MM because of his speed/power rather than his technical ability.I did feel Mike and Marco were the best two though, and thought the three episodes were spot on...but come DT...lets have another Octavarium/Images and Words/SDOIT....you guys shine like no other when you prog it up. ;)

Pedro

I wonder if Marco would have been the better choice in terms of being more of an "unknown" quantity creatively....and that could be why they chose not to go with him?
Mike seems more likely to play what they ask for and/or give then what he thinks they want, rather than challenging them to learn stuff he comes up with? I don't really know....maybe I'm falling for the whole soapy-drama side of it too much!

It's also worth pointing out that the amount of talking by JM equals shouting compared to the few words he has uttered in past interviews and documentaries. :D

Oh, and Wildöer was a pleasant surprise for me. He's simply amazing! Lots of very interesting stuff on Youtube.

I had assumed he was a mute. That, or opening his mouth would reveal his circuitry and out him as a cyborg.

Funny old bunch, if you think about it.

Petrucci is a fairly straightforward rocker type, whose image readily fits the general mental image one has of DT and their music.

Rudess, on the other hand, has quite the nutty professor air about him, and who clearly belies his original classical training; it's no surprise to learn that he's almost ten years older than Petrucci, Myung, and Portnoy, and six years older than La Brie.

As for La Brie, well, he always seems a bit of an outsider with respect to the DT gang, even though he joined earlier [edit: in a weird transposition, I had written "later", although it was clear that I intended to say the opposite] than Rudess. Perhaps it's because he's "just" the vocalist and perhaps it's because his contributions to the DT sound do occasionally come under criticism (for me, he can alternate between the sublime and the unlistenable), but somehow he seems slightly left out sometimes.

And then there's the mysterious Myung, who really is the word "taciturn" incarnate.

All in all, such a disparate bunch, perhaps the unhinged "puppy dog aiming to please" personality of Mangini will fit in perfectly ...  ;)
