I was indulging in said electronic video entertainment when I was struck by what sounded like the nimble fingers of our dear uncle Jem plinkety-plonking on a piano.

It just sounds an awful lot like something he would write. Not completely, but in places. Have a listen:

Game music is seriously overlooked, by the way.

Sounds a bit more like Mr Wakeman Snr

LOL I can hear what you both mean...it's a Godfrey-Wakeman mash-up (Godfrey for the nice chord changes, Wakeman for the repetition and repetitive flourishes!  ;) )

yeah its the chord changes that made me think of ol' JG. I quite like it.

Speaking of Wakeman Snr;

August 8th sees the release of RICK WAKEMAN's 5CD, "Bootleg Box Volume One", via Floating World (Gonzo Media Group).

From RICK WAKEMANS personal archives we have a 5 cd box set of previously unreleased live material.
Nicely packaged in true bootleg style and at a bargain price as well and a welcome addition for fans of yes and prog rock.

Thanks for the tip, Mikey.
I got the RW "Treasure Chest" boxed set a few years back, I'd have to super sure there were no overlaps with this lot before considering a purchase.

Oh my, yes. Way back in the distant early years, game music was one of the few things that got me interested in music, trying to play it and whatnot. Ah, the good old days of the SNES...  :D  Nowadays, I find that a lot of game soundtracks lack that character they used to have, where it really has just become background music or just something to support all the visual action. Metroid Prime's soundtrack was ace, though. Some great electronic stuff there, loads of texture and variety.

rogerg

the music in World of Warcraft is very well done.

Pedro

@Rog: Son of Pedro spends most weekday evenings on WOW, must have a listen sometime.
@Mouse: I know what you mean but have encountered some cool stuff in PS3 games and of course the choons that Beano  makes at Rare.
@Mikey: the mention of Mr Wakeman is scarily on-topic too since he had a foray into games music with "Microcosm" on the ill-fated Commodore CD32. Yes' (without Wakey) Homeworld was used in the game of the same name too.

I think I have said it before but the Donkey Kong Country soundtrack has been one of my favourites since I was a kid. I remember using a cheat to allow me to play just the music and record it onto cassette to listen to on my Walkman.

That was one of my favourites, too!  :D  What about F-Zero?

El_Mayonnaise

I recently played the game VVVVVV and the soundtrack to that is excellent (even though I'm not well versed in chiptunes) would reccommend a listen though :D

VVVVVV is a good game if not a bit tricky. I love chiptune music, Machinae Supremacy are a great band if you like a bit of metal mixed with chiptune music.
