Apologies to the non-Brits on the forum or to any Brits who're feeling less than patriotic today (and the latter is a pretty fair description of me on most days), but I felt I simply had to share this wonderful short video:

as well as the associated story on The Grauniad:

There is just something absolutely brilliant about the film, not only in the actual story being covered, but in the fantastic "jolly hockey sticks" nature of the whole enterprise, the "string vest and lashings of ginger beer" way the cyclist / pilot warms up on a cold November evening, his "spiffing" and utterly infectious grin (I was smiling with him throughout), and last but by no means least, the music. My god, the music  :D

And to think that I actually lived in this now utterly alien world. To be sure, I was less than a year old at the time and wouldn't say that I feel nostalgic, but nevertheless: compare this to the world we live in today. The past is a foreign country indeed.

Loving the "short back and sides" vibe of the haircuts they've got as well. And the copious use of masking tape!  :D

Chocks away and tally-ho, showing some good honest British grit and ingenuity - marvellous!
Check out those Dame Edna glasses on the girl at 1:47. And what was Prince Edward doing there with her?  ;)
Come on, you\'re a lion!
