Hello

I believe the solstice was actually yesterday this year, but anyway, for those of you, like me, having a soggy June 21st, here's a synthy solstice song with a sunset that I prepared earlier...

http://youtu.be/Km53Sc8cOOM

The sunset video is from Tuesday, but the actual song is from 1999 and is an improv by me on an old Amiga program called Sonix, patched into a Zoom Studio multi FX on a nice delay setting.

Happy midsummer/longest day/Thursday/rain to all ye Frost*ies - stay...crispy!

Excellent stuff! I've never really heard anything like it. Great atmosphere throughout the whole thing. Sounds to me like it could be in some kind of indie feelgood movie. Not quite sure how to describe it, lol.

Will you be posting more of these videos on your channel?

Pedro

Ah, the good 'ole Amiga 500, still got mine, still works. :) Did a fair amount with Music-X way back then.
Nice imagery...nice vibe.
Thanks for sharing that.

Quite hypnotic. Yknow, I used to mark all of the solstices and equinox....es. Equinii? Your vid was a nice little reminder.

Hey wow, cool!  Thanks for the responses, I certainly can't argue with

and hypnotic and nice (+vibe)  :D

Yes, I do plan to post more videos on that channel.  I've been doing some research recently into more effective ways of "getting my music out there" both in terms of cost and reach and control, and YT is most deffo one of them.

I've been trying to work out how I made the song since there was a lot of manual tweaking going on, but there were at least two major elements going on.  One was using a sound that sounded distinct when the waveform was either a sine or a square wave, and the other was finding a tempo with the delay unit which would work when I slowed it down or sped it up.  I almost certainly have the disc somewhere and I now have two Amigas so do plan some archiving work if I can get my self into gear over the rainy season.

This video shows the synth side of it quite well - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8JPSeoAXAM but it also had a score screen and worked with midi.  I can't read music so I just used to draw all over the staff with the mouse and hope something good came out (just like the guy does on the video).

I actually used the Amiga and various other bits on the first ever Spunkle single which came out in 1997 (and which you can buy here http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lubetune-Spunkle/dp/B000057VKG if you really want...).  Frustratingly the floppy disc with the project data on it died so I was never able to replicate it and I have no idea how I did it now.

Put a new video on my channel this weekend. Musically I don't see it'll get many fans here (it's hardly ever had any fans anywhere at all in fact), but the video bit is possibly quite interesting as it's made up of some old 8mm film of the gear I used in 1997.

Annoyingly it's not the actual gear I used to make the song with (which was an Amiga 500 running Sonix into the distortion patch on a Yamaha REX-50) but I didn't think ahead (at the time I also couldn't conceive at all that we'd ever be able to edit videos to play them on the internet like this anyway).

Nevertheless visible in the video are my Boss DR550, Yamaha TQ5 and SHS10 and my old Realistic mixer.  I own them all still but haven't had them all connected together for at least a decade now.

Anyway, here's the link, but prog...it is not!  http://youtu.be/vtNaXkD6lL4
