Pip Pip !

I've been thoroughly inspired by the Olympics in this Green and Pleasant Land. So inspired in fact, that I stopped doing what I was doing and completely remodeled this show to at least include some of the stuff we heard at the fantastic opening Ceremony !!

So, mixed in with a mix of old and new, classic prog and rock are some tracks directly inspired by the aforementioned and there's a special Olympic sequence right at the end that I hope will stir some memories for you.

Alongside that we have some new things by Saga, Rush, Syd Arthur, The Treatment, Von Hertzen Brothers, District97, Big Big Train, Panic Room as well as the first appearance on this show of North Atlantic Oscillation and the brilliant Public Service Broadcasting.

All this excitement is tinged with great sadness as a giant of hard rock, Jon Lord, passed away as I was putting this show together. So I've also included a sequence of tracks in his memory. RIP Jon.

It's actually quite good, outstanding in places. There is a version of Highway Star on there by Steve Vai, Glenn Hughes and Chad Smith which is the only cover I've ever heard that approaches the energy of the Made in Japan version - it's simply staggering. And that's taking into account that the OTHER version is by Chickenfoot, which by all accounts is pretty much above standard
