Had my first visit to the Boardwalk on Sunday.
Bit of a rushed job, only decided to go at 8, doors 7.30. Added to that a new ring road, thats probably a couple of years old, just never gone into the City Centre recently. The place looked closed when I got there, sign on the door said we're open but its cold :D, Missed the first band PsiPhi, Jump were next on, best support band since.....Frost*. That also happens to be only. Played a mixture of styles which were described as miserablist by John Dexter Jones.

John Young Band comprised John, Frosty Beedle, Ian Salmon & Robin Boult. 4 excellent musicans pity there were only about 40 in attendance. These are the type of guys that need our support. They also need the word spreading, just like Frost*.

It's John you need to blame for me coming back here. He's a great guy.

He sent me a shout on last.fm, suggesting I might like some of his stuff based on my scrobbles.  So, I listened to it and shortly after, much to my surprise, he sent another shout thanking me for listening.

It's decent enough, though I think "Kings" stands out.  Sounds like something I might have written.

Quote from: "John Young"2009 shows....sign up here.....

OK so for the last 4 years I've hauled myself around the planet putting my faith in humanity and hoping that people who said...'whenever you come to my part of the world ....we'll be there!' would show up and generally they didn't. In most cases I've covered all the bills some of it's been great fun and some of it's been torrid but the show has always gone on, it still will, but now if you want me to play in Twin Lakes Wisconsin then you have to also do your bit.

Shareholding ...it's easy
Just imagine each gig is like a company you can take a share of the gig right down to just agreeing to pay the cost of 1 ticket and you can start a gig in your town with as little or as much of a share as you want. The idea is simple you share the gig with other folks maybe some will want to buy a larger share and some might even want to buy a whole show!

So how does it work again....
well say you have 13 folk who want to see a jy solo show in Birmingham England. 1 guy wants to cover £50, another two £25 each another 10 £5 each. The show confirmation price for a solo show in birmingham U.K. is £150 so it's covered and then booked

The clever part: Once it's on the market the money taken for any further tickets sold will be offered back to those who contributed....largest first and so on so if a further 17 people buy tickets the three main contributors will all be able to get there money back:-)

Once all ticket monies are taken if there is any further capacity in the venue the gig will be made free to any folk who just happen along as a way of spreading the word..... if for any reason you think that's unfair then I'm afraid you haven't understood the concept:-(

So if you want to put a show together in your town just email me at soblivious@btinternet.com and ask for a 'confirmation price' for your town. Prices start at £150 in the U.K., €400 in Europe and $600 in the USA. UK and Europe gigs will be played to order whereas USA shows will take place when a tour arises ...although all shows will work on the same principal and remember no money changes hands until a show booking is underway.
The band are only available in the U.K. at the moment prices start at £300 but should anybody wish us to travel outside the U.K. we'd be more than happy to:-)
Ticket prices for the solo show are £5, $10, €7 or for the band £10.

So what do you have to do... easy ...just get in touch and say I'd like a % of a share in my home town it can be as little as one ticket to get the ball rolling.

two points to remember
1) the more people you involve. or the more funds you pledge, the quicker it will happen
2) If you see a show announced in another city where you have friends who would be interested in coming along then please feel free to get them involved too:-)

I'll keep details here of how it's working and should it work I'll publish results as we go....

So to recap...
You just need to
1) say what town/city you would like to be involved in
2) tell us how many tickets you would like or alternatively if you
would like to cover a % of the show
3) pop it all in an email to soblivious@btinternet.com

hope that all makes sense
best wishes
john
Don't know how much interest there'd be on here, I'd be prepared to travel to see John, PM me if you're interested, I'll see what we could drum up around West/South Yorkshire.

Thanks for coming to the gig mike on a cold and frosty Sheffield evening.
I must say i was really not aware of Frost's work until recently obviously I know some
of the chaps involved and I have to say i think it's excellent work.
I'm a fan of John Mitchell's music and talent  so I guess it should come as no surprise that this would  be a band of  a high calibre indeed.
As for my own etchings well whilst I imagine we are not everyone's cup of tea we do cover a fairly broad spectrum so hopefully there is something for the progfan and their partner.:-)
Some folks obviously like the heavier element like Kings and others go for more old fashioned time changing prog like Childhoods End a lot of people prefer the more lyrically based music like underside and some like a bit of a combo such as our 15 minute tribute to the Unknown Soldier. Hopefully there is a lot of depth both musically and lyrically and as such the songs will only reveal themselves over the fullness of time. This is the way it used to work but with the demands of popular music and A & R men who require instant gratification it is something of a lost art form.
I was saying to mike that fanbases tend not to cross too much these days after seeing a John Wesley show recently in Oxford which was attended by the usual regulars but very few young PT fans who i thought would be desperate to know what Wes get's up to.
It's the complete reverse of 'when I were a lad'
Any support is gratefully received and I do my best to keep folks on myspace last.fm and the like up to date. Many of the musicians in my position do likewise and unlike the 'gods' of the 70's it seems sometimes that we almost have to invite any audience that may attend individually  (with no spam!)... I doubt Jon Anderson and Carl Palmer would work on a similar principal:-)
Anyway thanks for inviting me Mike
love and best to the band and friends
jy
P.S. Our drummer should be a complimentary member ...after all he is called Frosty!

I've played some of those JYB tracks on my interweb radio programme. Kings has always been a fave of mine. John played me some demos of new stuff earlier this year while we roasted in his rental car. Some of it he had written for Jon Anderson. Talented guy and a nice fella.

& from Qango to John Young. Just put some JYB on the blog if you want a listen

Edit;
Missed this.
He's played with The Strawbs
