So in October I along with many other people pre-ordered the DJI Mavic Pro drone.  After the inevitable delays as DJI struggled to keep up with demand I eventually took delivery late in December.

Here is my first upload to youtube of footage shot with the drone:

Good grief.

I do not need one of those. I do not need one of those. I do not need one of those.

Must keep telling myself ...

The way to do it TA is to remember that any MT worth his or her salt knows to be in front of the camera and not operating it 8)

I have neither the ability to fly or take decent pix so I can resist. Looks great when someone like Mike does it though, especially if that's the result first time out

Thanks Owen, these shots were from yesterday about my 5th flight with the drone.  Filming and editing is part of my day job, so that aspect of the process is nothing new to me. I'd never flown a drone before I got this one,  I've found it fairly easy to fly, although I had  watched lots of tutorial videos on youtube in the months I've been waiting for it to arrive.  I did have one minor accident on my 3rd flight, where I managed to get it stuck in a tree, luckily managed to retrieve it with only very minor damage done, and everything in full working order.

I do have another bit of footage to upload from my 2nd flight,  I'll probably upload that tomorrow and I'll add the link to this post.

Not quite that simple, I'm afraid. I'm a bit of a photographer myself & also very interested in imaging, film, VFX, and the like. Add that to the fact I'm a pilot and, well, I have to admit that I've been thinking about getting a drone like this for a while.

Besides, they have a "Follow Me" mode, where you can get it to fly above you, follow you, and film you as you go about your business. Perfect, eh?

This is the video I mentioned of my 2nd time out with the Mavic Pro,  I was joined by my friend Simon and we went to Mosshouse Wood Reservoir part of the Gnoll estate here in Neath.

I did the flying and the filming, Simon who works with me did the editing:

To quote MT "Good thing about NL is the wide open spaces with bike paths across fields, miles from cars & people. Bring your bike & drone ;)"
