I hear they're making a sequel to Tron with most of the original cast.

Mitchell will be over the moon. i do hope Wendy Carlos will do the music again, I loved that soundtrack.

If you look online (youtube, the usual places) there is a trailer floating about that someone managed to film at comic-con i think it's called. It's a bit shonky and not an official trailer but you still get the jist (gist?)

Looks absolutely bloody awesome. I love the original and was incredibly skeptical until I saw the trailer....Damn those light bikes are one of the coolest things ever thought up !! :)

Oh and the main two characters are still in there too :)

Ah Wendy (ex Walter  ;) ) Carlos. I recently re-aquainted myself with "Switched on Bach". This was the first piece of true electronic music I heard as a teenager. The influences are still strong!

I guess that the first film must now look more than a bit dated, lots of good ideas in there from what I remember.

With the original cast? Although I distinctly recall seeing it and enjoying it at the time, I couldn't tell you who was actually in it for the life of me (begone foul Wikipedia and IMDB; I shall not ask thee for succour!)

But I agree; the music was a standout. With all respect to Wendy Carlos though, why not think laterally here, Jem? You surely have enough industry contacts to push the case for you writing the soundtrack to the new one  :D

Personally I found the original Tron to mello........  ;)

Precisely.  With Olivia Wilde on screen, a script is completely optional.

If I'd known JM was a fan, I'd have mentioned the film months ago.
...and I can feel the world is turning...turn around

Hmmm, music is to be by Daft Punk, it turns out (ok, I cracked and googled).

Not good (at least not in my books) if that Harder Better Faster Completely Frakking Annoyinger thing and all that stupid vocodering are anything to go by. No, not good at all  :(

Now now TA, don't shoot them down before they've taken flight. They've got the potential to do something really new and original with this film, and I think they shan't disappoint.

As for Tron itself, I can't make up my mind whether I actually like it or not. There's no denying it's a classic film, but... Maybe I needs a second viewing.  :)

Bert

I saw that film when it first came out at the local Odeon, with my mate Rog.

I can only hope the sequel is better... :)
I am a Norfolk Man and glory in being so!

Can't please everyone, obviously. To me that's just fabulous news.
I was a victim of goose-flirting the other day.
This bleeding great goose came up to me and wanted a light.
I said no.
Goose, there\'ll be no flirting today.

Indeed, knowing that the music was by Daft Punk would encourage me to go to see the film. (I was very impressed with Monster, for which BT did the music.)

Jem

BT would have been fabulous for Tron.

I was 11 when it came out. I think you had to be 11 or thereabouts to really buy into it in '82. It is a Disney film after all.  ;)

That said, I have just downloaded a Lightcycles game onto my iPhone so Tron lives on in my head at least.  :D
