"DLBN TEN REVOLUTIONS - JEM GODFREY (FROST*)" - The two tracks are at either end of the rather large download.

As a card-carrying Frost*ie, I'm almost embarrassed to admit that it has taken me until now to be able to listen to TDL, mostly because of a lot of travel over the last few weeks and an iPhone/iPod that's too full to have allowed me to copy over the whole broadcast  :(

But, thanks to the travel-extending wonder that is Eyjafjallajökull, I had an unexpectedly long trip back from Munich to Amsterdam by train last Friday, long enough to listen to the whole "Breakfast with Godfrey" segment and long enough to hack the broadcast into the new Snowman (which didn't quite do it for me, I'm afraid to say, but then I've been spoiled by so many wonderful versions already) and TDL.

On first listening, TDL simply overwhelmed me: so, so much going on, so much to try and swallow in one sitting, perhaps not helped by being elbowed in the face constantly by people standing in the aisle. I mean, yes, it was obviously completely brilliant, completely bonkers, completely Godfrey, but it just wouldn't fit into my limited brain.

But by now I've listened under more propitious circumstances and ... well ... I get it. I love it. I am in awe of it. I only wish I knew which planet it came from.

Don't worry, the style settles down a bit (for a while at least) for the next song or two. Bear in mind this is a concept album, so the opening track always has to be the poster child for the whole idea. That said, as we ramp up to the climax of the whole thing, expect some further madness.  ;)  :D

By the way, serious house points for getting "propitious" into a forum entry.  8-)

Sorry to hear that mate, you'll have to head to the bar for that bit when we do it live....

Oh, did I mention we were gigging later in the year?... :D

Announcements soon.  ;)

Oooh, this has gone from "a gig" to "announcements"....this is enough to make one a little moist.... :)

You are more than welcome, your honour, although be aware that such hagiographical praise may merely serve to encourage egregious periphrastic loquacity on the part of the forum's more sententious denizens. Innit?

As for TDL, I am more than happy to hear that we can expect more in the same vein over the coming months. Emerging over repeated listenings (how did you know that my commute is almost exactly 16 minutes 45 seconds long?  :D ) from the magisterial complexity of the music are the absolutely beautiful short nuggets of pure pop genius melody, many in the vocals. Several of these are now infesting my brain as Ohrwurms (we've had this discussion here before, I believe), but leave me simply wanting more.

For what it's worth, I've never quite understood why some (albeit few on this forum) didn't like the shift between Milliontown and EIMA. Weirdly perhaps, I'm not even sure I notice it. Yes, a forensic and dispassionate examination of the two shows that things clearly did change, but that's not how I listen to music, and as such, I see Milliontown, EIMA, and now TDL as so very obviously part of a continuum, an evolution, a wondrous growth.

Yea verily, you are a tumour on the (beer-)belly of prog, squire

Oh, I'm not worried at all; there's no way you will have left it unchanged by next week, let alone later in the year  ;)

In any case, don't get me wrong: I love Snowman with a passion and am absolutely fine with the electro-modifications of the latest version (many of which sound reminiscent of machinery and other ambience from Myst, Riven, and so on  :D ), but for me, this song simply must end with Dec screaming ".... TO SIIIIIIZE!" and some eedjits giggling in the background ...

But as for gigs, do tell ...  (and do remember our conversation about De Boerderij  ;) ) That said, I'll more than happily travel to the ends of the earth ... even to The Peel.
