I properly listened to "Love is like Oxygen" this morning, and blow me it's a damn fine song.

Who didn't like "Blockbuster" eh?, and "The Ballroom Blitz", Fantastic. I seem to remeber the "B" side to Blockbuster was something like "Need a lot of Loving" another rocking gem.

Adds to Christmas list... "Best of Sweet"

I happen to have that.  A fine CD.  Don't forget "Little Willie," "Action" and "Fox on the Run."  "Little Willie" was always frustrating for me as a child because I hadn't yet figured out how to follow along with the timing of the chords, but it's become a favorite over the years.  Always loved "Love is Like Oxygen."
...and I can feel the world is turning...turn around

hmm, wonder if there is any Sweet on eMusic...

The Sweet were highly under-rated, lumped in with Glam and other bubblegum pop bands when they actually could play and write. Desolation Boulevard is the album to get if you want to venture out of 'Best Of' territory.

I sadly had a front row seat to Brian Connolly's later decline - a textbook case of the things overindulgence can do to a person - He was a regular at my local pub in his last few years. Every Sunday lunchtime he'd turn up in his Rolls Royce and stand at the end of the bar nursing a soft drink. Always a gentleman and with a quiet dignity despite his failing health. His passing touched a lot of people.

I totally agree with you Progbitch, they were a superb band. I can also recomend the albums LEVEL HEADED, CUT ABOVE THE REST and WATER'S EDGE. although you might have a bit of trouble finding the last 2 on cd. the last time I saw CUT on cd was on Amazon market place and it was £113!!

PB and Geddy, thanks for adding the info. I never knew about those albums, however I did know about Brian's problems!.  Looks like now I have some research to catch up on. Cheers  :)

I forgot to mention SWEET FANNY ADAMS as well. This was ( to most fans ) their first proper album.

Isn't one of them now Cathy Dennis' cowriter on stuff like Kylie's "Can't Get You Out of My Head"?
I was a victim of goose-flirting the other day.
This bleeding great goose came up to me and wanted a light.
I said no.
Goose, there\'ll be no flirting today.

Ah, yes, now... I saw the guitarist from Mud on TV a while ago, and he was definitely writing pop songs.

It all starts to fall into place.

Rob Davis, the guitarist from Mud co-wrote Can't Get You Out Of My Head with Cathy Dennis. He was the one in Mud that wore the long earrings and huge baggy flares.

The Cosmic Lawnmower

Great band, 'Hellraiser' was always my favourite.

Saw a latter incarnation of them in the 90's with Brian Connolly, it was really quite sad the shape he was in, had a real bad case of the shakes, still had that instantly recognisable shock of blond hair though.

That doesn't really naroow it down much.

First band  I ever saw (Rarely admit this, usually say Eddie & the Hotrods supported by Radio Stars & Squeeze), Batley Variety Club, Saturday Matinee, support was a very dodgy magician.
I used to have a signature
