Quote from: "rogerg"some of you are misinterpreting what I'm saying about cd costs.  I just know that people have griped about $15 cds for as long as there have been cds, and the idea that bands would produce/market their cds without the middleman/big company was going to be the way that cd prices would be more reasonable.  this is a much larger conversation than just DR, and as I said, I will continue to support the bands that I know and love.  I understand the exchange rate situation, but in the end, we're paying more (sometimes/most times; not always [case in point: the FrostFest Live cd-a full cd for like 8$!!]) for cds when they are sold directly by the artist.

I'm just trying to discuss the larger issue of cost/distribution/change from the way it has been done/end result question.  no need to jump on me because you perceive I'm not supporting DR or Frost* or whomever.

I understood what you meant and apologize if my comments were misconstrued and led to any misunderstanding.  It was not my intention for it to appear that you were complaining.  I didn't view your comments as such.  You were merely pointing out that direct sales should, in theory, cost less than those sold through record labels and outside distributors.  I wouldn't question your band loyalty and support for one second, nor should anyone else.

I guess the thing here is that, when you sell through a major distributor / record label, you can get deals worldwide so that the price is *reasonably* similar wherever you live.

If you're selling direct, you can sell for a nice price where you are, but by the time anyone overseas adds shipping and takes the exchange rate into consideration, the deal doesn't look so great.

Hence the bargain price of £8 in the UK (which is still £2 less than your average top 40 CD even if you buy it in an evil supermarket) doesn't look so great by the time you convert to USD and add shipping.

They've put the whole track on?
They were given a 5' 30" edit for the cover CD!
Perhaps Pedro just played it twice?  ;)

Perhaps they'll get paid double as well....
(Well deserved BTW)

Don't believe everything you read on coverdisk sleeves....

I assume the theory goes that the cost of distributing the CD to the thousands of readers is much more than the fee the magazine charge the artists to include their track so, on balance, "the producers of this CD have paid the composers and publishers for the use of their music".

So, if I am right, for DR to get what they deserve, people still need to buy the full CD direct from them.

Slightly off topic, but does anyone here know how to get a hold of the Pictures EP that they have on their myspace page? I love that song.

Also pre-ordered Template last week, can't wait for that one!

catherine

Hi Philip,

The Pictures EP is currently out of stock, nad has been for some time. I've already suggested to the band that they should repress it (as I'd like a copy as well, and I'm sure I'm not alone).

You can listen to it on their MySpace page. (Sorry, can't put a link to that at present as it's barred at work).

Brom

Finally got a copy of the new Classic Rock Prog special for August. Listening to Breathe It In by Darwin's Radio on the cover disc I realised that I'd heard it before - live!

My first, and so far only taste of DR was at The Peel, in Sept 2007 I think it was, where I made a couple of vids on the compact. I dismissed them at the time, thinking that they were not up to much (The recordings, not the band!!), seeing them again now, perhaps I was being too hasty and a bit too critical of the recording. So, enough of my waffle, here are the DR boys with the instrumental middle of Breath It In.

Enjoy

Excuse the bouncing, it's difficult keeping still when the music's so good  ;)
I am out of the office. Messages can be left with Mr. C Lyons on 020 7722 3333

That's great, Brom! Any more where that came from?

(and any chance you could give it decent tags so that other people can find it?)

Bert

Am possibly a bit behind the curve here, but DR track on Prog Rock free CD is f*****g awesome !!

Has anyone who has pre-ordered this from DR's website recieved it yet? I only ask as it does say that all pre-orders made before 14th August will be sent out immediately but as yet I haven't had a thing. Anyone shed any light on it?
