Could we fill it though? Nothing worse than a half empty Boerderij...

That said, I'm the new boy in the Netherlands and I'm sure many of the natives who're denizens of this board could give us a much better feel for how widely Frost* are known and loved in the Dutch prog scene. But I have to say that if Jennifer Batten, ex-Michael Jackson guitarist (gig picked at random from De Boerderij's current programme) reckons she can sell enough tickets to make it worth the booking, Frost* have to stand a chance.

Any input on this, Bokkie et al.?

I've been to De Boerderij quite a few times and first of all it's a lovely venue and perfect for Frost* so I have to agree with you. When bands like De Dijk, who seem to do over a million shows a year, is sold out in De Boerderij, everything is possible... Of course, Frost* is something different, but when they were here last time the venue was everything but empty. But then again, Spock's Beard is quite well-known. However, we Dutch people seem to like prog, and I've met a few Frost* fans here and there (none of them were forum members), which was quite surprising. And a band like Magenta was also a success last year, while they're not really, well, "famous".
If you're playing at that venue, your support act or however you want to call it, if you're having one, might be important to attract more people of course.
Oh well, it's late, but no, it won't be half empty I think (or half full).

By the way, dear mister Trapezium Artist, where do you live?

I would definitely be there, although it's about a 2,5 hour drive for me. I'd bring at least 3 people with me too. Might well be more.

Oh and if you're looking for a support act, I happen to know a band who'd love to do it... (for free! hell I'd even pay for that :mrgreen:)

I have always considered Fanfare to be one of those songs that someone would have written, i didn't have to be Copland, it could have been anyone, but that song was going to insist on being written.  so to hear you send it into the Frost*y world will just be so much love I won't be able to stand it.

Thanks, AnsOnkruid (and Pajter too): sounds like a good start. Any ideas who might be a good, dependable local support act that (a) would bring the crowds in, (b) get Frost*, and (c) wouldn't mind playing second fiddle to them?

As for where I live, well, I'm afraid it's in Wassenaar, since my kids go to one of the international schools there. While very nice in many ways, it's all a bit posh for my tastes, as it's home of the excessively pampered captains of Dutch industry, ex-pat community (including me), and old Dutch empire moneyed types. Way too many blonde mid-30's trophy wives driving stupid bloody Range Rovers who, at risk of offending the sensitive, I characterise as "wearing f**k-me shoes while driving f**k-you cars"  :twisted:

For my part, I wear Doc Maartens and drive a black Citroen C1 with CD-plates. Oh, the irony ...

The big advantage of "De Boerderij" is that's it's one the 2 leading prog venues in Holland (the other one being 013 in Tilburg) so prog fans watch those venues closely. The last time Frost* played there was with Spock's and that sure helped selling the place out. Then again I think there are a fair number of Frost* fans over here that would love to see a full gig for a change instead of "just" a support show. I know I would!

I haven't got time to tackle Karn Evil 9.  

I did think about doing Touch and Go, but I'm not sure I could do anything to improve on it. Same for Hoedown. I'm not a fan of Lucky Man so that's out.

Mars The Bringer Of War could have been a right laugh though.  

Besides, every man and his (prog) dog will want to hear Fanfare. It'll be a good ad for the band.

About Frost* in the Netherlands:

I wouldn't overestimate the popularity of Frost over here. Certainly a headlining show seems to be just a bridge too far. Couple yourselves however with another great band of the same caliber and make it a double headlining show then the chances are you would do very well. Since you are very friendly with Rob Reed I would guess a Magenta / Frost double headlining gig could work.

About de Boerderij: I am not fond of that place mostly because of where it is = Zoetermeer. That is almost on the other side of the country for me and the driving route is basically over a few of the busiest highways we have.

But hey, what am I complaining about... I am going to a The Enid concert in Birmingham next week.

I'm curious what would come out if instead of Fanfarre, you decided to go crazy on Tarkus. Not happening, but in my head it's just perfect. Anyway, as it have been already said, this non-Frost* year is coming along very Frosty, to our happiness
